BMW to make Mini electric car plant decision by end-September

BMW to make Mini electric car plant decision by end-SeptemberBy Costas Pitas CHICHESTER, England (Reuters) - BMW will decide whether to build its new electric Mini car in Britain or elsewhere by the end of September, its board member for sales told Reuters, in a test of the country's ability to continue to attract investment as it leaves the EU. Mini makes around 70 percent of its approximately 360,000 compact cars at its Oxford plant in southern England but the car industry is concerned about the effect any loss of unfettered access to the EU, its largest export market, could have on plants after Brexit. BMW is deciding between its English site, a plant in the Netherlands where it has built more of its conventional line-up in recent years, and its Germany plants at Leipzig and Regensburg for the new low-emissions variant.

During the cold war, Belarus Tractors, sold in western markets were infamous for their low quality compared to western manufacturers. The Soviets inability to build tractors came to symbolize the failure of Communism in the 1980s and after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Often the tractor factories could not obtain quality materials and made do with inferior components. The quality of rubber seals, gaskets and paint was particularly poor in the early 1990s.

Sputnik Belarus.

EU Blasts Belarus Supreme Court Upholding Death Sentence Against Aliaksei Mikhalenia
Eurasia Review -- The Belarusian Supreme Court has ruled to uphold the death sentence against Aliaksei Mikhalenia.

The decision has brought condemnation from the EU.

“The continued application of the death penalty runs counter to Belarus’ stated willingness to engage with the international community, including the European Union, on the matter,” the spokesperson for the European External Action Service said in a statement.

“The European Union reaffirms its strong opposition to capital punishment and urges Belarus, the only country in Europe still applying capital punishment, to commute the remaining death sentences and to introduce without delay a moratorium on the death penalty as a first step towards its abolition,” the statement concluded.

          Angelus, 25 June 2017

POPE FRANCIS

ANGELUS

Saint Peter's Square
Sunday
, 25 June 2017

[Multimedia]

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Good Morning!

In today’s Gospel (cf. Mt 10:26-33) the Lord Jesus, after having called and sent the disciples on mission, teaches them and prepares them to face the trials and persecutions they will have to endure. Going on mission is not like tourism, and Jesus cautions them: “you will find persecutions”. So he exhorts them: “have no fear of them; for nothing is covered that will not be revealed.... What I tell you in the dark, utter in the light.... And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul” (vv. 26-28). They can only kill the body; they do not have the power to kill souls: do not fear this. Jesus’ dispatch [of the disciples] on mission does not guarantee their success, just as it does not protect them from failure and suffering. They have to take into account both the possibility of rejection and that of persecution. This is somewhat frightening but it is the truth.

The disciple is called to conform his life to Christ who was persecuted by men, knew rejection, abandonment and death on the cross. There is no Christian mission marked by tranquility! Difficulties and tribulations are part of the work of evangelization and we are called to find in them the opportunity to test the authenticity of our faith and of our relationship with Jesus. We must consider these difficulties as the opportunity to be even more missionary and to grow in that trust toward God, our Father who does not abandon his children during the storm. Amid the difficulties of Christian witness in the world, we are not forgotten but always assisted by the attentive concern of the Father. For this reason, in today’s Gospel, a good three times Jesus reassures the disciples, saying: “Do not fear!”.

Even in our day, brothers and sisters, persecution against Christians is present. We pray for our brothers and sisters who are persecuted and we praise God because, in spite of this, they continue to bear witness to their faith with courage and faithfulness. Their example helps us to not hesitate in taking the position in favour of Christ, bearing witness bravely in everyday situations, even in apparently peaceful contexts. In effect, a form of trial can also be the absence of hostility and tribulation. Besides [sending us out] as “sheep in the midst of wolves”, the Lord even in our times sends us out as sentinels in the midst of people who do not want to be woken from their worldly lethargy which ignores the Gospel’s words of Truth, building for themselves their own ephemeral truths. And if we go to or live in these contexts, and we proclaim the Words of the Gospel, this is bothersome and they will look at us unkindly.

But in all this, the Lord continues to tell us, as he did to the disciples of his time: “Do not fear!”. Let us not forget these words: always, when we experience any tribulation, any persecution, anything that causes us to suffer, let us listen to the voice of Jesus in our hearts: “Do not fear! Do not fear! Go Forth! I am with you!”. Do not fear those who mock you and mistreat you and do not fear those who ignore you or respect you “to your face”, but fight the Gospel “behind your back”. There are so many who smile to our face, but fight the Gospel behind our backs. We all know them. Jesus does not leave us all alone, because we are precious to him. That is why he does not leave us all alone. Each one of us is precious to Jesus and he accompanies us.

May the Virgin Mary, example of humility and courageous adherence to the Word of God, help us to understand that success does not count in the witness of faith, but rather faithfulness, faithfulness to Christ, recognizing in any circumstance even the most problematic, the inestimable gift of being his missionary disciples.

After the Angelus:

Dear brothers and sisters, I express my closeness to the people of the Chinese village of Xinmo which was struck yesterday morning by a landslide caused by heavy rains. I pray for the dead and the injured and for those who have lost their homes. May God comfort the families and support the rescue workers. I am very close to you!

Today in Vilnius, Lithuania, Archbishop Teofilius Matulionis, killed in hatred of the faith in 1962 when he was almost 90 years old, is being beatified. Let us praise God for the testimony of this courageous defender of the faith and of the dignity of man. Let us salute him and all the people of Lithuania with an applause!

I greet all of you, people of Rome and pilgrims! In particular, I greet the Major Archbishop, Bishops, priests and faithful of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, as well as the pilgrims from Belarus who are commemorating the 150th anniversary of the canonization of Saint Josephat. I join spiritually in the Divine Liturgy that you will shortly celebrate in the Basilica of Saint Peter, invoking from the Lord for each of you, the courage of Christian witness and the gift of peace for the dear land of Ukraine.

I greet the ministrants of Komorów, Poland, and the other Polish faithful with a thought also for the pilgrims at the shrine of the Mother of God of Gietrzwald. I greet the Chilean faithful from Santiago de Chile, Rancagua and Copiapó and those from Montpellier and Corsica. I greet the confirmands from Tombolo and the pilgrimage of the Order of Minims of Saint Francis of Paola.

Azarenka looks forward to special Wimbledon after son's birth

Victoria Azarenka is still coming to grips with carrying a stroller around with her tennis rackets when she travels to tournaments these days, but is looking forward to a special Wimbledon after arriving with an "extra member" in tow.

Vika returned to the circuit last month after giving birth to Leo in December, and both mother and son have traveled to London as the Belarussian gears up for her first grand slam since last year's French Open.

"Being back here with an extra member of my team is really special," a smiling Azarenka told a news conference on Saturday.

"It feels great. I didn't play last year, so it feels like it's been, you know, almost two years that I didn't play here."

Being a mother comes with added responsibility -- and luggage -- but the good news is that Leo likes to travel, while Azarenka is confident she has struck the right balance between the demands of her sport and her family.

"He's actually a very good traveler," she said. "I think I stress out more because I want to make sure that everything is going great... He is totally fine. He loves the plane.

"But it's definitely a little bit more luggage. And with a stroller there... I didn't know you can't bring your stroller out in London, so we had to carry him all through the airport... till we got to the customs, which was really weird."

Azarenka said she had initially struggled with being away from Leo and had to trick herself into not feeling any guilt as she prepared for her comeback.

"Well, the changes, it's like 180 in your mentality, your daily activities," she added. "Being in an individual sport, you have to be a little bit more selfish.

"It's a little bit of a mind trick that I have to do... not feel guilty that I don't spend my every free second with my son, which is sometimes tough.

"But it also gives me a really good balance when I am done with my practice or my matches, that I'm able to shut off from tennis, just lose myself with my son."

There have been a number of changes on the circuit during her absence, including a host of unfamiliar faces, and Azarenka's first challenge will be to get past 40th-ranked American teenager Catherine Bellis in her opening match on Monday.

July - the month of linden in blossom, harvest and blistering sun
July - the month of linden in blossom, harvest and blistering sun

July came - first month of holiday and time of travels. For ancient Slavs it was a time of joy. Since the Kupala Night it was possible to bathe in lakes and rivers without being worried about rusalka or utopiec [demons from Slavic beliefs]. Long day and high temperatures were supportive to the idea of spending the evenings on having fun near the bonfires. July is also a month of hard work. Although it is August that is considered more widely as a month of harvest, some part of harvests were beginning in July. Of all Slavic demons the most active in that time were those known as "południca" [południce in plural], which were merciless for those who worked on fields. What kind of image of the seventh month of year according to Gregorian calendar have been preserved in Slavic nomenclature?

Why the seventh month of the year is named "lipiec"? This time the explanation is simple - in June and July on Slavic lands the linden start to blossom. This motivation was strong enough on native and Polish ground, so not many other names have been created. The only example is "lipień" which have same ethymology. There are no other names in archaic Polish language that could help to look on this month from different angle, which suggests that linden had a very powerful place among the Slavs.

The linden puts all Slavic nations in agreement, as almost all native names for this month are connected with that tree. In other countries we can still find similarly sounding names, e.g. Ukrainian "липень (lipenʹ)", Belarusian "ліпень (lìpenʹ)". Also the Kashubians call that month "lëpinc". In some places however, the linden start to blossom in June, so for the Croats the June is known as "lipanj", while the July is known as "srpanj" (the name similar to Polish "sierpień" which is a name for August). Such character of natural order have resulted in the fact, that for the Czechs July is known as "červenec".

But why was the linden so important to the Slavs that it was able to fully dominate the naming of the seventh month of the year? "Lipa" as the name of the tree functions in all Slavic languages, and even proto-Slavic form of this word is reconstructed as *lipa. The linden among a lot of different peoples was considered a sacred tree. It was placed on the opposite side to Perun (god of thunder), claiming that thunders never hit the linden (it's only a myth however, what was brutally discovered by those who tried to seek safety below the linden tree during a thunderstorm). The linden was associated with feminine deities and the cult of Mother Earth. It was treated as a tree of love and family life; below it the sacrifice were given, which were basically a form of pleading for fertility. Since August is for the Slavs a month of work on field, then maybe July was a month of praying for their work being fruitful. Hence the popularity of the linden in blossom among the Slavs.

The Slavic nations that were not mentioned by far have accepted Latin terminology, where the name "Iulius" was taken to commemorate Julius Ceasar. Exampes of such names are: Slovak "júl", Slovene "julij", Serbian "јул (jul)", Bulgarian "юли (yuli)", Russian "июль (iyul’)". The Lusatian Sorbs, besides using the terms borrowed from Latin, have also their own native names: Lower Sorbian "žnjojski" - the month of harvest; Upper Sorbian "pražnik" - the month of blistering sun.

$300m Chinese Boost for Zimbabwe Agriculture
SUNDAY MAIL

Local firm Life Brand Agriculture Services has secured a US$300 million loan from China to purchase and supply irrigation equipment.

Farmers will access the equipment, which has a hi-tech solar component, on concessionary credit terms in a major boost to Government’s Special Irrigation Rehabilitation and Development Programme.

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has given Life Brand exchange control approval, and Goldsun New Energy Science and Technology company of China will supply the equipment to Life Brand.
Goldsun will also provide technical support, training and installation services.

Life Brand becomes the latest private company to embrace national agricultural initiatives after Sakunda Energy helped fund the Specialised Maize Production and Import Substitution Programme (Command Agriculture). Documents availed to The Sunday Mail last week show that Life Brand will initially draw US$65 million through BancABC, with the remainder coming in tranches.

The first tranche will be channelled towards horticulture, with chillies exports as the predominant project.

US$235 million will target solar-powered irrigation, and will be availed based on the horticulture project’s success.

In a letter to Life Brand dated June 13, 2017, BancABC head of international banking Mr Isaiah Mupfurutsa said, “Please be advised that your loan application has been considered by the external loans and exchange review committee.

“In light of their decision, Exchange Control is agreeable, in principle, to Life Brand Agriculture Services accessing the global facility …”

Mr Mupfurutsa went on: “Exchange Control, however, wishes to advise that the balance of US$234 750 000,00 which is earmarked for the solar project can only be drawn down after the company has successfully managed to implement the chilies project.

“The phased approach to draw-downs will also allow the borrower to obtain relevant approvals from relevant Government Departments, especially the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority .”

He added, “Life Brand Agriculture Services shall furnish Exchange Control with documentary evidence of receipt of funds on each loan drawn down. A pre-shipment valuation of the agricultural equipment shall be undertake by an independent professional valuer prior to shipment of the equipment.

“The valuation report shall be furnished to Exchange Control. Life Brand shall sell the agricultural equipment to farmers at affordable prices whose mark-up should not exceed the prevailing domestic lending rates prescribed by the Reserve Bank.

“Life Brand shall furnish Exchange Control with quarterly updates on the number of farmers benefiting from the equipment supplied, value of equipment supplied, value of equipment received by each farmer and deposits paid to the company.”

Goldsun New Energy Science and Technology company is listed on the Chinese Stock Market and is located in the High-tech Industrial Zone in Yantai City of Shandong province.

It specialises in developing science and technology equipment, particularly solar-powered designs.
Zimbabwe has identified irrigation development as a viable response to intermittent droughts which continue to plague Southern Africa’s agriculture.

The plan involves building more dams, with Tokwe Mukosi Dam in Masvingo figuring as the country’s largest inland water source.

In 2015, the country took delivery of irrigation equipment worth US$38 million under Brazil’s More Food for Africa Programme, and further partnerships with agro-equipment manufacturers from Belarus, Italy, France, Germany, Portugal and Turkey are being explored.

Harare awaits delivery of 80 centre pivots worth more than US$6 million from Spain, while the Agriculture Ministry’s Department of Irrigation is being revamped.

The Rear View Mirror: Australian Open 2016
by Savannah

I've seen the question asked several times on fan forums and never get answered. I don't think I'll get an answer here either but I'll ask the question: What happened to Novak Djokovic's health issues? Remember when he was always retiring from matches due to breathing problems? Or physical problems? Or something unquantifiable? It wasn't that long ago. All of a sudden those issues disappeared and now we seem to have some kind of iron man with the same name as the one who was known as, and still is by many, Fakervic. "They" don't like to talk about it but when pressed some injury or another will still pop up and if his opponent reacts to it with concern it disappears and he's off again. He did it to Andy Murray at last years Australian Open but no one wants to talk about that. What they want to sell you on is that using a hyperbaric pod after a grueling match is not blood doping. Here's the secret: it is blood doping. They will come at you and say that the ATP/ITF/WADA hasn't said it's illegal so until they do it's not.
This year they say he used it after a particularly long match against Gilles Simon, one that lasted over four hours. Of course next round he was fresh as a daisy.

Remember that year Rafael Nadal played a five hour match against Fernando Verdasco and had to play the next day or something? No hyperbaric pod was mentioned (they would've mentioned it since the powers that be hate Rafa for some reason or another)and he won his next match. This year they're trying to tell us that many other players use it but the only ones they could name were one of the Bryan twins and Bethanie Mattek Sands.

They're also trying to tell us that Boris Becker is Djokovic's coach when it's really the man who has always been his coach, Marian Vajda. And tell me what ATP #1 has ever defended a "friend" who has been accused and suspended for using PED's and mentioned in the match fixing kerfluffle?

I've tried to avoid this subject but when articles supporting his use of a hyperbaric pod (remember when they said it wasn't, that it was a variation of some kind but not the real thing?)appear alongside pleas for fans to like him someone has to say something. Every win of his is, in my opinion, bad for tennis. I bet that as soon as he retires they're going to make hyperbaric pods illegal. Wait for it.

On to happier news.

Everyone knew Serena Williams had physical problems coming into the Australian Open. A tricky draw had many thinking that she wouldn't make the Final but she did. Angelique Kerber would be her opponent, a woman I described as boringly efficient. It was Kerber who won in three sets and for once the Australian Open, scene of many petulant losses by favorites both male and female, the loser seemed genuinely happy for the winner. There were no side eyes or eye rolls. There was just happiness for Ms Kerber from Serena. That was good for tennis and especially women's tennis especially after Garbiñe Muguruza's comment in an interview with Spanish media that all of the women really and truly hate each other. Kerber was overjoyed and Serena was happy for her, genuinely happy. Now, with the Grand Slam pressure off let's see how Serena manages her schedule up to and after Rio. It's also going to be interesting to see how Kerber handles the weight of expectations that now grace her shoulders. Congratulations to both women for giving us a competitive and entertaining Final.

Some things should not happen, but they do.

In 324, Battle of AdrianopleConstantine I defeated Licinius, who fled to Byzantium. 987, Hugh Capet was crowned King of France, the first of the Capetian dynasty that would rule France until the French Revolution in 1792. 1035, William the Conqueror became the Duke of Normandy, reigned until 1087. 1767, Pitcairn Island was discovered by Midshipman Robert Pitcairn on an expeditionary voyage commanded by Philip Carteret. 1775, American Revolutionary WarGeorge Washington took command of the Continental Army at Cambridge, Massachusetts. 1778, American Revolutionary War: British forces killed 360 people in the Wyoming Valley massacre.

In 1819, the Bank of Savings in New York City, the first savings bank in the United States, opened. 1839, the first state normal school in the United States, the forerunner to today's Framingham State College, opened in Lexington, Massachusetts with three students. 1844, the last pair of great auks was killed. 1848, slaves were freed in the Danish West Indies (now U.S. Virgin Islands) by Peter von Scholten in the culmination of a year-long plot by enslaved Africans. In 1863, American Civil War: The final day of the Battle of Gettysburg culminated with Pickett's Charge. 1866, Austro-Prussian War was decided at the Battle of Königgratz, resulting in Prussia taking over as the prominent German nation from Austria. 1884, Dow Jones and Company published its first stock average. 1886, Karl Benz officially unveiled the Benz Patent Motorwagen: The first purpose-built automobile. Also 1886, the New York Tribune became the first newspaper to use a linotype machine, eliminating typesetting by hand.

In 1913, Confederate veterans at the Great Reunion of 1913 reenacted Pickett's Charge; upon reaching the high-water mark of the Confederacy they were met by the outstretched hands of friendship from Union survivors. In 1940, World War II: In order to stop the ships from falling into German hands the French fleet of the Atlantic based at Mers El Kébir, was bombarded by the British fleet, coming from Gibraltar, causing the loss of three battleships: DunkerqueProvence and Bretagne. One thousand two hundred sailors perished. 1979, U.S. President Jimmy Carter signed the first directive for secret aid to the opponents of the pro-Soviet regime in Kabul. 2013, Egyptian coup d'étatPresident of Egypt Mohamed Morsi was overthrown by the military after four days of protests all over the country called for Morsi's resignation, to which he didn't respond. President of the Supreme Constitutional Court of Egypt Adly Mansour was declared acting president.

I am very good and don't deserve the abuse given me. I created a video raising awareness of anti police feeling among western communities. I chose the senseless killing of Nicola Cotton, a Louisiana policewoman who joined post Katrina, to highlight the issue. I did this in order to get an income after having been illegally blacklisted from work in NSW for being a whistleblower. I have not done anything wrong. Local council appointees refused to endorse my work, so I did it for free. Youtube's Adsence refused to allow me to profit from their marketing it. Meanwhile, I am hostage to abysmal political leadership and hopeless journalists. My shopfront has opened on Facebook.

Here is a video I made Wednesday Morning 3am

Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. is the debut album by folk duo Simon & Garfunkel, released October 19, 1964. It was produced by Tom Wilson and engineered by Roy Halee. It initially flopped, but was re-released in January 1966 to capitalize on their newfound radio success and reached #30 on the Billboard pop charts. It is perhaps best known for the acoustic version of "The Sound of Silence". In several concerts, Art Garfunkel related that during the photo sessions for the album cover, several hundred pictures were taken that were unusable due to the "all-familiar suggestion" on the wall in the background, which inspired the song "A Poem on the Underground Wall".

Seriously awful lyric writing must be celebrated

Of the girl that I love
As she lies here beside me
Asleep with the night
And her hair, in a fine mist
Floats on my pillow
Reflecting the glow
Of the winter moonlight

She is soft, she is warm
But my heart remains heavy
And I watch as her breasts
Gently rise, gently fall
For I know with the first light of dawn
I'll be leaving
And tonight will be
All I have left to recall

Oh, what have I done,
Why have I done it?
I've committed a crime,
I have broken the law
For twenty-five dollars
And pieces of silver
I held up and robbed
A hard liquor store

My life seems unreal,
My crime an illusion
A scene badly written
In which I must play
Yet I know as I gaze
At my young love beside me
The morning is just a few hours away

Halle Yaffa Ariel rests in the arms of the Lord. She deserved a long full life. And she was denied it by cowards who hide from reason in their safe spaces. Killed by those who gave Muslim extremists a free pass. She was Jewish, and so after a dance recital seen by 150, she went to her home and went to sleep. A 17 year old extremist Islamic broke into her home while she slept, and stabbed her to death. The so called Palestinian (Muhammad Nasser Tarayrah) had entered the house while both parents and two younger sisters were elsewhere. He later stabbed a security guard and was killed. Some two hundred so called Palestinians have been killed trying to commit similar atrocity since October 2015. They have succeeded in claiming some 33 innocent Israeli lives. It is what Obama and Kerry call 'Peace.' Some would say the cowardly Muhammad was not really Islamic, but many claim that in killing an innocent sleeping child he represents the Islamic ideal. Palestinian leadership have repeatedly called for similar attacks, and the UN endorses it.

Turnbull's legacy is assured and eternal. He could attempt to stab a Muslim woman and fail, when it turned out to be an umbrella. Police could seize him and no one would think less of him.The speech matched Turnbull as PM. Divisive, desperate and incapable.Bill Shorten had not campaigned to win, but to get back the ALP heartland that had deserted ALP when it became apparent that they lied and were corrupt in 2013, but even so did not reflect true ALP values which are also selfish and spiteful. Shorten's lies about Medicare weren't believed by ALP heartland, but were examples of Shorten connecting with those who want to believe we will all go down together come the revolution. Or evolution. Or something. On radio 3AW, in Melbourne, one caller post election said she believed the ALP lies because she had once heard a reporter say the Libs were planning to privatise Medicare. When it was explained to her that privatising Medicare could not be done as it was loss making, but privatising the fiscal collection aspect had been discussed and shelved, she said she knew the truth and liked Bill Shorten. Heartland.

For some, at the moment, the Sex Party has more credibility.

AFL coach Phil Walsh stabbed to death, allegedly by his son. His son is 26 years old, his daughter is 22 years old and he is survived by his wife who was also stabbed. The Adelaide Crows, the entire code and Australia mourn the loss of a dedicated, hard working and kind man. Mr Walsh had had a near death experience in 2012 which sparked him to focus on things. Earlier this year, Walsh admitted he had lost a connection with his son, and begun surfing with him and his daughter to reconnect. We have not been told if drugs were involved. The match scheduled for Sunday with the Crows has been cancelled.

Typical of the left wing, the issues facing Greece are met with calls claiming it is not possible to run Greece well. All that is required is a cut in spending. The Greek government claims it can still find other people's money to spend. Ten years ago Greece did not have a problem. Those pointing to historical issues have got it wrong. Greece needs to cut spending, to live within her means, and to repay her debts. It will be better for Greece than try to steal more money.

ALP member for Wollongong, Noreen Hay, has stepped down over allegations of voter fraud.
From 2014
Some terrorists, possibly from those who were released by demand from Obama for 'peace,' murder three Israeli boys. Then an honour killing of a gay Islamic boy is blamed on Israel by media. Turns out US money is funding terrorist operations but no one is blaming a military official as Oliver North was blamed .. this ugly situation is at the feet of world leaders like Obama and the UN secretary General. And neither of them is denying it. Meanwhile, Iran has apparently been granted permission to build an atomic bomb. When will the madness end? 2016?

Today, in 1035, a supposed descendant of Rollo, reputed brother of the semi mythical Ragnar Lothbrok, became Duke of Normandy. He was also an ancestor of Queen Elizabeth II. The French royal line was also founded on this day in 987, with Hugh Capet crowned. For equivalent US royalty, George Washington committed his only surrender in 1754, and took command of the US army in 1775. But it was a royal stuff up by General Lee to order Pickett's charge at Gettysburgh in 1863. Wasting the lives of 50% of his men in a futile charge. Years later, when interviewed about the cause of the defeat, a confederate officer remarked that the Union forces had a lot to do with it. Touchingly, 50 years later, to the day, opposing forces met and held hands at the high point of the charge. And there is the majesty of royalty, that so many die for the state. But it is no explanation for the deaths of four youths in Israel at the hands of terrorists.

Born on this day in 1943 was Judith Durham, a Seeker. Jim Morrison passed through a door on this day in 1971, and the carnival was over.

I am publishing a book called Bread of Life: January.

Bread of Life is a daily bible quote with a layman's understanding of the meaning. I give one quote for each day, and also a series of personal stories illustrating key concepts eg Who is God? What is a miracle? Why is there tragedy?

January is the first of the anticipated year-long work of thirteen books. One for each month and the whole year. It costs to publish. It (Kindle version) should retail at about $2US online, but the paperback version would cost more, according to production cost.
If you have a heart for giving, I fundraise at gofund.me/27tkwuc

Happy birthday and many happy returns Annie NguyenFreedom Gt and Emmanuel D'Annunzio. Born on the same day, across the years. Independence Day in Belarus. In 1844, The last known pair of Great Auks, the only modern species in the genus Pinguinus, were killed in Eldey, off the coast of Iceland. 1863, Pickett's Charge, a futile Confederate infantry assault against Union Army positions, occurred during the final and bloodiest day of fighting in the Battle of Gettysburg, marking a turning point in the American Civil War. 1970, The Troubles: The British Army imposed the Falls Curfew on Belfast, Northern Ireland, which only resulted in greater Irish republican resistance. 2005, Same-sex marriage became legal in Spain. Not everything is futile. Party long enough and you will see that. Cheers.

"This is a war": Inside the global "pro-family" movement against abortion and LGBT rights

At a recent summit in Budapest, anti-abortion celebrities and anti-gay rights activists gathered with their political allies waging a ‘spiritual war’ for the ‘traditional family.’

World Congress of Families summit in Budapest. World Congress of Families summit in Budapest. Photo: Claire Provost. In a darkened hall at the Budapest Congress Centre, an image of the classic American TV show, The Brady Bunch, appears illuminated on a giant screen. At the podium is Jack Hanick, a former Fox News producer who describes television as “at the centre of a spiritual war”.

Hanick points to the 1950s as the golden age, when “the father was the central figure” and “the mother stayed at home.” The Bradys were not his wholesome ideal but the beginning of the decay: a “blended family” of stepparents and stepchildren, where the father “has power over only half of the children”.

Fast forward to today and the hit sitcom Modern Family “idealises same sex marriage”. This, Hanick said, is the latest chapter in “TV’s role in the destruction of the traditional family”. He claimed: “This is a war, but it is not a war to be waged in the physical world”.

Hanick was in Hungary in late May for the 11th World Congress of Families summit, with hundreds of other anti-abortion and anti-LGBT activists and their political allies from across the globe. The conference programme described its goal as “to unite and equip leaders to promote the natural family”.

Speakers were explicit: this means a married mother and father and their children. They name-checked diverse fights against comprehensive sexuality education, abortion, same-sex marriage, “gender ideology,” surrogacy, and euthanasia.

But they called for positive, “winning messages,” alliances, and strategies that go after “hearts and minds” – recalling the shorthand used repeatedly by the US for winning over supporters and public opinion in the context of wars.

Several speakers talked specifically about “appropriating the language” of human rights to bolster conservative campaigns.

"this is a war, but it is not a war to be waged in the physical world"

Attendees included anti-abortion celebrities like Lila Rose, founder of Live Action – the online “pro-life” movement using new media to “target millennial women.” Others came from groups like the National Organisation for Marriage (NOM) and the Alliance for the Defence of Freedom (ADF).

These groups are well-known to women’s rights activists. In the US, the WCF has been described by the Southern Poverty Law Centre as an anti-LGBT “hate group”. The progressive thinktank Political Research Associates says it’s among “the major driving forces behind the US Religious Right’s global export of homophobia and sexism”.

NOM was formed in 2007 specifically to pass California’s Proposition 8 bill to prohibit same-sex marriage. ADF also focuses on legal advocacy. Its founder, Alan Sears, co-wrote a book called The Homosexual Agenda: Exposing the Principal Threat to Religious Freedom Today.

On the WCF programme there were pastors and bishops along with MPs, activists and academics. Delegates came from around the world, including Trinidad and Tobago, Nigeria, and Kenya. Many were from Hungary and the US.

The theme of the summit – “Building Family-Friendly Nations: Making Families Great Again” – included a hint of the “Make America Great Again” slogan used by US President Donald Trump in his election campaign.

Registration was free – though “VIP” tickets were also available at $350 per person, or $500 per married couple, including special receptions, lunches, and a “networking lounge.” There was also an extra one-day European pro-life forum.

After lunch, participants split into groups for sessions like “family advocacy at international institutions” and an “emerging leaders pro-family training” focused on “how to win at networking, campaigning, fundraising and advocacy.”

Budapest family festival. Budapest family festival. Photo: Claire Provost. There was music, and games too. On Saturday night: a “Symphony of Life.” And on Sunday: a “Viva Familia” Family Festival in Budapest. “We are the builders of the new culture that… will span the globe,” said one speaker at the summit. “We need to redeem Hollywood,” said another.

From South Africa, one speaker said that, after the fall of apartheid in 1994, “the doors were thrown open and an ultra-liberal constitution was imposed on us...and all kinds of wickedness came into South Africa including pornography”.

The “LGBT agenda” he added, “is an ideology that's been imposed on us...it is not part of African culture, it is imported from other nations”.

“This is a war,” he insisted.

A transnational “anti-rights” alliance

For years women’s rights activists have warned that groups pushing back against rights related to gender and sexuality have become increasingly organised and interconnected. Last year, a new Observatory on the Universality of Rights (OURs) was set up by more than a dozen organisations to monitor these groups.

Their first report, released last month, mapped how a “transnational community” of “anti-rights actors” has formed and the impact it's had on “watering down of existing agreements… deadlock and conservatism in negotiations; sustained undermining of UN agencies… and success in pushing through regressive language in international human rights documents”.

Mapping anti-rights groups and connections. Mapping anti-rights groups and connections. Infographic: OURs initiative. At the Budapest summit, WCF president Brian Brown said “something new is happening.” He insisted: “what unites us is so fundamental...we have to be willing to speak together.”

Several speakers said “the family” is a “common cause” between countries including Russia and the US regardless of other tensions.

One man said explicitly that attendees should “appropriate" human rights language and use positive messages of love, joy, peace and hope to draw people in.

Another stressed the “key to winning any campaign” is to “bring the majority of the public”. He said: “that's a war of culture, of a whole society”.

After the event, a delegate from the Philippines said the WCF has “created a new model of cooperation between government and national and international family organisations on the defense of human life, the family and marriage”.

In the Philippines, abortion has been criminalised for over a century and President Rodrigo Duterte has recently said the country will not legalise same-sex marriage, stressing that it is Asia’s bastion of Roman Catholicism. Last month, Duterte also “joked” with soldiers on Mindanao island, where he imposed martial law, that they could rape women with impunity.

In a session at the Budapest summit, Claudio D'Amico read a statement from Matteo Salvini, leader of the Italian right-wing Lega Nord (“Northern League”) party, urging collaboration to defend the “natural family” that is “constantly being threatened”.

D'Amico said pro-family agreements can be struck between MPs from diverse parties. Last year, he said, he helped organise a “Family Lunch” with representatives from countries including Azerbaijan, Belarus, Sweden and Switzerland, on the sidelines of an Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) parliamentary assembly.

World Congress of Families summit in Budapest. World Congress of Families summit in Budapest. Photo: Claire Provost.A representative from the Dveri party in Serbia said support from the WCF was “life-changing.” In 2013, “we managed to stop the Gay Pride parade in our capital city,” he said to applause. “We're looking at our neighbours, the Hungarians, as an example of how to create a family-friendly country,” he added.

Hungary is “the hero of pro-family and pro-life leaders from all over the world,” according to the WCF website, celebrating the government’s “defense of family, life, and Christianity”.

The summit itself had opened with a “pugnacious speech” by Hungarian President Viktor Orban, in which he claimed the European Union was dominated by a “liberal ideology that’s an insult to families”. The Guardian called Hungary’s hosting of the summit “the latest episode in Orban’s quest to position himself as a self-styled defender of “European Christian values”, a role he has used to justify his Fidesz government’s draconian treatment of mainly Muslim refugees and migrants”.

Under Orban’s leadership, Hungary has defined marriage as exclusively between a man and a woman, and life as beginning at conception, in its new 2011 constitution. The government has also introduced new policies to promote large families with many children in particular.

“the hero of pro-family and pro-life leaders from all over the world”

Access to abortion, while legal, has been limited by “unnecessary waiting periods, hostile counselling or conscientious objection,” according to a UN working group. Homophobic remarks have been made at the highest level, including by the mayor of Budapest who in 2015 reportedly said homosexuality is “unnatural and repulsive”.

Many of the summit attendees were from the US where Vice President Michael Pence – an “evangelical Catholic” – declared that “life is winning again in America” at an anti-abortion rally in January.

Trump’s administration has already reinstated and expanded the 'Global Gag Rule' prohibiting US foreign aid money from going to organisations that provide or even give information about abortion. It has also defunded the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

Earlier this year, the US government’s official delegation to the UN’s Commission on the Status of Women meetings in New York also included an activist from the Center for Family and Human Rights (C-FAM) – a key player in the “pro-family” lobby at the international level. Among other things, C-FAM sends out e-mail newsletters with subject lines like: “Anti-Christians Continue Attack on Pro-Lifers, Your Help Needed” and “8 Days and Counting...Radical Feminists Descend on UN”.

"Positive stories"

The OURs report warned that “anti-rights actors are making inroads into human rights standards” with growing numbers and networks and “imaginative and sustained re-conceptions of what human rights norms should and do mean”.

At the international level, it said, these groups “are no longer merely on the defensive or reactive; they are strategic and proactive”. Their goal, it suggested, is to insert and insist on language at the international human rights level “that validates patriarchal, hierarchical, discriminatory and culturally relativist norms”.

Numerous alternative or parallel human rights declarations and documents have been drawn up and promoted by these groups over the years including the Declaration on Rights of Children and their Families, the Family Articles, the World Family Declaration, the Declaration on the Rights of the Family, the Decalogue of Commitments for Human Dignity and the Common Good, and the San Jose Articles – which assert state responsibility to “protect the unborn child from abortion”.

The WCF summit closed with its own declaration – a “Budapest covenant.” It says: “The natural family is the true reservoir of liberty and the foundation of effective democracy”. For avoidance of doubt, it defines this natural family as one man and one woman, married, for life, for “the purposes of procreation”.

It calls on “peoples and nations to make new alliances" for the "natural family" and put it "at the centre of political and cultural life”.

“to restore the natural family we must use TV”

In his speech, Hanick, the former Fox News producer, insisted, more specifically: “To restore the natural family we must use TV.”

“As more positive stories about any topic appear, public opinion in the US moves,” he said, adding that, when this happens, politicians and courts move too. He closed with a specific challenge to the audience: to “get one positive story about the natural family up every three months on your local TVs”.

Once that’s accomplished, he said, try for every month, then every week, then every day. “Public opinion will change,” he declared. For single, divorced and unmarried parents, LGBT communities, and the reproductive rights of women everywhere, it was an ominous promise indeed.

GREECE; OIL; EXXON & 1993 "ANTI-FASCIST MEETING IN MOSCOW"

FIRST, by way of introduction, appetizer, to main event, a reproduction of a 1993 article, title above, I thought to HIGHLIGHT a CURRENT proposed investment partnership between GREECE, EXXON, our Resident NAZI INTERNATIONAL CARTEL, and, the CLIENTS THEY REPRESENT, with US Secy of State, i.e., PRESIDENT, TREX, BECAUSE, THEY, IT, ARE THE ONGOING HISTORIC LINEAGE, PRESENT, NAZI POWER relationship, nexus, here and abroad, with, of course, their cloned PRIVATE interests created in NOW garbage dump CHINA, Russia, Mideast, etc.

Everything they touch, they trash!

These are BARBARIC EMPIRES like those of yore, dressed in modern apparel.
There is NO, little, difference except superficial ones.
Substantially, the rules of the game operate on SAME principles, simply updated.

AS YET, NO ORGANIZED GLOBAL OPPOSITION, RECOGNITION, TO PRIVATE CAPITAL ACCUMULATION, certainly, specifically, capital intensive LNG DEVELOPMENT, EVERYWHERE, ANYWHERE, ITS EXPORT AND/OR IMPORT, ALL MORTGAGED in perpetuity IF this FRANKENSTEIN monster becomes reality!!

So, first:

http://oilprice.com/Latest-Energy-News/World-News/Greece-Okays-Exxon-Total-Bid-To-Explore-For-Offshore-Oil.html

Anyone reading my blog for some time knows I reprint material from sources like FORMER Establishment, but, independent, financial Wall St Journal daily BEFORE its hostile takeover representing forces, above, below.

But, I have LOTS of material from OTHER sources, as well, which I do NOT reproduce simply because it is too voluminous and difficult for me to select one item.

However, I WILL do ONE example, below.

Once again, I can NOT link to this article ANYWHERE on the internet, I have NO access to the archives and I can not reproduce it myself except simply type it verbatim, a time consuming process.

If anyone KNOWS how to find or link ON to it via the internet, I would be happy IF they provided this information to the public and myself in the comment section.

So, here goes.

MY ONE AND ONLY BOLDFACE sentence below being SOLELY MY editorial EMPHASIS.
It is NOT highlighted in the article, itself.

The sentence I boldfaced, below, along with much of everything else in the article, has VOLUMINOUS amounts of FACTUAL information surrounding it which I can NOT comprehensively put into a single entry, or, blog.

It takes VOLUMES, libraries, books, multiple languages, sources, primary research, etc.

As MANY people DO know, for example, cryptic, pseudo, MANUFACTURED FASCIST Islamic forces were used thru Albania in what FORMERLY was Yugoslavia and subsequent NAZI IMPERIALIST WAR, ATTACK, COUP, instrumental in Yugoslav dismemberment.

Tons of information exists on THAT one item alone.

And, recall, remember, nefarious money laundering role, arms, drug cartels, represented by BCCI (Bank of Criminal and Crooks International, as WE called it/them, associated presently with, amongst others, CURRENT Iraq traitor extraordinaire Jafar and Company of Dana Gas/Crescent Oil/Abraaj Investment, et.al.)??

And, of course, Saudi (Rockefeller Saudi Aramco/EXXON/Citigroup/JP MORGAN CHASE) in Chechnya, Afghanistan, and more.

IRAN also.

These SURROGATE, pseudo, cryptic, Islamic militias, armies, thugs, extend themselves NOW thruout the Mideast and elsewhere, globally.

ALL KNOWN TO and/or CREATED BY SO-CALLED DIS-INFORMATION COVERT, NATIONAL "SECURITY," AGENCIES, a PLETHORA of FRONT GROUPS, CIA OPERATIVES, foundations, and so on.

Returning full circle to whence I began this post, PERHAPS, GREEK boundaries MAY be next on THEIR agenda in the form of what THEY call irredentism.

I DID WARN everyone, accepting, appeasing, recognizing, a BRUTAL, BARBARIC, HOSTILE, NAZI MANUFACTURED ARYAN IRAN, PERSIAN, REGIME OCCUPATION, ANNEXATION, OF ARAB IRAQ, territories, NOW, SYRIA, PROXY FORCES, HAMAS, HEZBOLLAH, ETC., GUARANTEED DISASTER AND FURTHER WARFARE, liberation movements, resistance, armies.

What's good for an Arab goose good for a European gander.
Or, Asian, African, one, as well.
One Fascist Occupation begets another.

So, AS PROMISED above, MAIN EVENT BELOW:

FROM "PEOPLE'S WEEKLY WORLD"

(organ, publication, of the CPUSA, formerly published daily, now, available ONLY on line, weekly, not in print!)

July 3, 1993

"ANTI-FASCIST CONGRESS MEETS IN MOSCOW"
(NO Byline listed--sorry!)

"On June 22, 1941, the fascist forces led by the anti-communist Adolf Hitler, invaded the first land of socialism.
June 22, 1993, the anti-fascist forces of the former USSR gathered in Moscow to combat the rise of fascism in the former Soviet Union.
Today there are few places in the world where communists are more persecuted than in the former USSR.
Today, counterrevolution there is led by former leaders of the CP of the SU (CPSU).
These renegades made possible what even the mightiest, most savage armies in history could not achieve:  the destruction of the great socialist state, the illegalization of the CPSU and a reign of terror against communists and patriots.
A new form of apartheid has been introduced into the 'independent' Baltic states, where recently enacted laws have transformed the substantial Russian speaking minority into disenfranchised, rightless, foreigners.
In Lithuania, whose president, a former communist leader, opened the gates to semi-fascist ultra-nationalists, CP membership can subject one to long imprisonment.
In Ukraine, where a united CP has just been reestablished, the party is still illegal and the western part is the stronghold of fascist like ultra-nationalists.
In Moldova a savage war was launched against the Dneister Republic, the sole, tiny outpost of the former USSR.
In the Russian Federation Yeltsin is now engaged in a drive to close off the constitutional channels to the growing movement against the return to capitalism.
As Oleg Sheinin, chair of the Union of CPs-CPSU (UCPs-CPSU), noted in his report to the Congress:
For the first time the world is witnessing a new form of fascization taking place in the former USSR.
Your correspondent, invited to speak as a representative of the CPUSA stressed that this development relfected the new critical problems faced by Communists and anti-fascists in Russia and former Soviet Republics arising from the temporary reversal of the progressive path of history.
The forces of reaction lead by the Yeltsinites and supported by world monopoly capitalism were coming into collision with the very forces of history.
They realize there will never be a second chance and are resorting to the most extreme methods to cling to power.
Alexei Prigarin, a leader of the Union of Communist Parties-CP of the SU (UCPs-CPSU), noted that the reise of fascism here differed from its classic form: instead of arising in the developed capitalist countries, it was aimed at the full destruction of socialism from within.
He warned against Russian fascist groups attempting to parasitize on the great patriotic movement but pointed out they have no mass base and their possibilities are inhibited by the deep roots of socialism and internationalism in Russia.
He cautioned that Islamic fundamentalism can provide a serious base for the fascist forces.
Deputy Issakov, a leader of the Left-Patriotic Bloc in the Supreme Soviet of Russia urged widening the broad anti-fascist front to include the center forces now in sharp collision with Yeltsin.
General Varrennikov, who led the Victory Parade in Red Square in 1945, warned against the danger of passivity.
Prof A. Sergeyev noted that capitalists with ties to foreign capital, speculative shopkeepers and criminal gangs, constitute a base for fascist forces.
Representatives of the CPs of the Baltic states and Dneister Republic described the development of fascist repression in their countries.
Viktor Chikin, first secretary of the newl-united CP of Belarus, dealt with the profound crisis there resulting in great strikes and demonstrations inspired by the Donetsk miners.
'In many respects our people live no better than under Nazi occupation,' he said.
This first effort at analyzing the specific character of the fascist danger in the former USSR understandably revealed sectarian tendencies toward premature characterizations of fascism.
But, the overall significance of this Anti-Fascism Congress is that it is setting itself the task of uniting all prepared to struggle against dictatorial rule leading to the rise of fascism.
The Congress, attended by 646 delegates from 46 regions, many former Soviet Republics and 22 parties, called for the freedom of all political prisoners in the Baltic states and elsewhere.
Immediate steps are:
To organize Anti-fascist Committees, the holding of an All-Union Veche (great town hall meeting) in Moscow in September and at the same time a Congress of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus to avoid the dissolution of the USSR in December, 1991.
The delegates joined the march of 30,000 to the approaches of Central State TV building where a delegation laid flowers at the spot of the bloody attack on demonstrators protesting Yeltsin's monopoly control, June 22, 1992."

END OF ARTICLE.

However, to end MY post, I thought to remind everyone it seems fine for STATE, GOVERNMENT, TO RESCUE CERTAIN TOO BIG TO FAIL PRIVATE FINANCIAL, ECONOMIC, INDUSTRIAL, ENERGY, INSTITUTIONS, CORPORATIONS, INVESTORS, BUT, THOSE SAME PRIVATE INTERESTS TELL YOU THE GOVERNMENT, STATE, ITSELF, IS TOO BIG, CAN, AND, SHOULD, FAIL while THEY eat at the trough.

Well, THE OTHER WAY AROUND is the ONLY ANSWER.

Our RECIDIVIST CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY PRIVATELY OWNED INDUSTRIAL, ECONOMIC, ENERGY, FINANCIAL, SECTOR MUST SHRINK IN SIZE SO IT/THEY CAN BE FLUSHED DOWN a proverbial TOILET BOWL, WHERE IT/THEY BELONG, while PROPORTIONATELY INCREASING STATE, GOVERNMENT, PUBLIC, COLLECTIVELY OWNED, OPERATED, SECTORS and ECONOMIC PLANNING FOR EVERYONE, NOT a few!!

Our economic, profit driven, private ownership, SYSTEM must be turned upside down or ALL to perish, species extinction, annihilation, not to mention ongoing merciless suffering!!

As reminder:
