Hello racer993 I'm very new to the raspberrpi, and arduino world. I2C between the two is something I want to desperately understand. Could you send me code making the raspberrpi only blinking pin 13 on the arduino ? And another code where the raspberrypi is reading pot values from an arduino? This would better help me understand all the above. Thank you.

I've followed your instructions but the ic2_scanner sketch returns "No I2C devices found". The device powers up. I've double checked the wiring. All the components are from the Osoyoo starter kit. In my version of the Arduino IDE (1.8.2), they don't have: Sketch->Import Library so I manually copied the library file to the Arduino Library folder and the library shows up under "contributed libraries". Your sketches compile and run without error. Any suggestions? Thank you.

          A Game Where You Slap A Watermelon To Learn About The Horror Of Being A Watermelon   

The Melon Game Jam started out as an inside joke among the game developers who attended A MAZE 2016 and became a delicious reality one year later, producing watermelon-themed video games for a fruit hungry world.

But one standout title from the Melon Jam actually uses a watermelon as a controller- 'The Story of The Revolutionary Watermelon That Wanted To Live Free as a Bird and Learned How To Escape' by SpaceBackyard.

This crazy strange game stars a sentient watermelon who tries to escape its fruity fate by hopping to freedom, which usually doesn't end well for the watermelon:

The music and sound design is ominous and your efforts are mostly futile, sort of like if you replaced the protagonist in one of Playdead’s game’s with a watermelon; Limbo but for sentient produce.

All you can do as the watermelon is hop, and roll where you will, but the input is finicky, leading to chaos. If you’re not hopping enough, you’ll get snagged on a branch or stuck in a gully, but spam the jump command too much and you’ll eventually explode.

In order to debut their game in style at the Melon Jam SpaceBackyard replaced the keyboard with an actual watermelon, forcing players to slap the fruit if they wanted to play. Ethan Gach of Kotaku spoke to the creators to find out how they turned a watermelon into a game controller:

“Just some days ago we tried to put up something from scratch with the components found at home,” they told me in an email. “Technically speaking, it’s a really simple Arduino custom circuit and code based on a vibration sensor attached to a 100% real watermelon.” The sensor then connects to the computer and inputs the jump command every time a player slaps it. The hardest part, they said, was choosing the right watermelon.

“That road test was very useful to understand how people interact with a watermelon and how long it lasts,” they said. I asked them why they went to all the trouble though.

“Why not! Slapping a watermelon is so fun!”

You can too can try living a short and thankless life as a watermelon over at the game’s itch.io page, and once Space Backyard releases their diagram and code, you can even play it using your very own watermelon.

Ci scusiamo per la risposta terribilmente in ritardo. Per un qualche strano motivo la mail di avvertimento di questo messaggio non ci è arrivata. Il difetto che hai riscontrato non è dovuto alla lentezza di Arduino ma al programma che trasforma gli impulsi in un valore in giri al minuto (RPM). Sicuramente chi ha scritto il programma non ha curato molto la velocità di risposta e ha privilegiato altri fattori come la stabilità delle cifre. Noi non conosciamo Arduino ma se ci copi la parte che fa il calcolo forse possiamo suggerirti come correggerla. Sicuramente potresti collegare il tuo sensore anche a Theremino e il software di calcolo poi sarebbe più stabile e anche più facile da scrivere e modificare (almeno per noi che lo conosciamo bene), ma attenzione che poi ci vuole un PC sempre acceso. Se vuoi proseguire in questa direzione scrivici a engineering@theremino.com

Salve Livio. Eccomi di nuovo a chiedere informazione non più per la CNC ma per la possibilità di usare Theremino per un conta giri d'applicare a un generatore eolico assiale da me costruito,al momento ho già un conta giri realizzato con Arduino funzionante, però non so se è dovuto alla lentezza di Arduino o al conteggio non giusto perchè quanto il generatore è già fermo il displey segna oncora 30 40 giri per poi ritornare a zero lentamente. Il generatore ha due dischi con 16 magneti su ogni uno disposti in modo alternato nord sud nord sud e il sensore usato è un US1881 ad effetto hall, è possibile usare questo sensore anche con Theremino? We are very excited about this show. John and Jeff sat down with Scott Davis and his son Tommy to talk about Gamification and Programming for Kids. Tommy is nine years old and the Iowa Code Camp was his second time presenting. Scott and Tommy introduce a package called Scratch that was developed by MIT to teach kids about logic and interacting with programming using sprites. Tommy's favorite experience with programming right now is Lego Mindstorms because of the interaction with the Legos and the development. Most adults when they get started with development also got started with interacting more with the physical machines. The next generation is given amazing tools, but the tools tend to be sealed and the physical interaction is not there. With some of these alternative hobby platforms like Legos, Arduino, and .NET Micro Framework, kids can write some amazing application and see their code work with physical movement and interaction with devices and sensors.

In the second half of this podcast, Scott talks about how companies can us Gamification to prompt employees to interact with software and processes in the organization. We see gamification throughout the consumer space and you need to do is open up the majority of the apps on our phones or tablets and there is some interaction point to give the user a reward for using the tool. Scott gets into his product Qonqr which is described as the board game Risk and Foursquare together. Scott gets into the different mindsets of gamers (Bartle Index) and how you can use these mindsets to get the most out of your team through gamification techniques.

          Planning missions via Mavlink

          Comunication between APM2.8 and Arduino

          Multiple 0xFF returned after every transmission   

I’m using an Intel Edison for Arduino Board and the code for it is written in C++ using the Intel System Studio IOT Edition.

I use mraa library functions (libmraa) to transmit and to read data to/from a device through the UART.

 

The issue I'm facing is this: after every transmission through the UART (from Edison to the device), my following attempt to read data from the device results in a certain amount of 0xFF bytes after which I eventually receive the stuff I was expecting.

If I carry out sequential reads one after another, the incoming data is received properly but once I transmit (write) something, a following read will bring me a bunch of these dubious 0xFFs.

The device that I'm communicating with is not responsible for these bytes, it doesn't send them.

So where might they be coming from? And how can I get rid of them?


          Unofficial new Edison image based on Morty, Linux 4.11   

Before this forum gets locked down, I wanted to let you know that a lot of hard work from some (0andriy in particular, and many many kernel and yocto and other developers) and a little bit from me has lead to a new yocto layer based on Yocto Morty and Linux 4.11. The layers build a complete image for the Edison and a SDK.

When this forum gets taken down, we might want to move the discussion to the wiki/issues/pull request pages on github.

 

But in short:

  • A lot of stuff has been removed compared to the Intel Edison 3.5 image. The reason is, the yocto layer is built on the published layer that more or less build the 2.1 image, which builds with Yocto dizzy. As a lot of content was just patching bugs or upgrading recipes to newer versions which was not needed anymore for morty, I just removed these.
  • Some stuff just wouldn't easily build, or does not seem to belong into a layer that is intended to be a more or less bare bones linux distribution. So if you really depend on something, please check this manifest in advance https://raw.githubusercontent.com/wiki/htot/meta-intel-edison/edison-image-edison.manifest
  • If you are missing something really important, check here OpenEmbedded Layer Index - recipes  chances are the recipe is already in the layers but just needs to be enabled here meta-intel-edison/edison-image.bb at morty · htot/meta-intel-edison · GitHub. And otherwise, a new layer is easily added.
  • I have switched to using deb's instead of ipk. So when you find you need an additional package, add it to edison-image.bb, bitbake, find the built package under /out/linux64/build/tmp/deploy/deb/, copy to the Edison and dpkg -i package.deb
  • The Morty version will build on Ubuntu 17.04 (with a needless warning)
  • mraa has been updated to v1.7.0, upm has been updated v1.3.0
  • as pinmuxing on vanilla linux is supposed to be done by devicetree or acpi, I have disabled that in mraa. However, DT and ACPI or not yet available, so for now enabling is done in the platform code in the kernel.
  • bluetooth, wifi works, they are using the latest firmware available (from kernel.org and android-x86)
  • ethernet cards based on USB work (smsc95xx built-in the kernel, as well as intel)
  • hsu high speed uart works, and very well I must say, the results with the non-rt kernel is just as good as with the 3.10.14 kernel with preempt-rt enabled, so below.
  • i2c6 bus is not yet enabled, this needs a patch in the kernel. This means that Arduino shields that rely on i2c will not work for now.
  • I haven't tested spi, pwm and a/d converters, feel free to test your existing mraa based software and let me know
  • If you are afraid to damage your Edison: the only permanent change will be to update u-boot. The new kernel needs to be installed on a free partition (formerly used for OTA) and the rootfs will be on an externel sd card. Instruction are provided how to interrupt the boot process and boot the new image. Your home partition will be used by both original and new image, take care. If you don't interrupt the boot process, your original image will start. If you break u-boot, instructions are available to recover, you might loose data in this case. If that is a problem, backup in advance.
  • The kernel is on a separate partition with initramfs built-in allowing to load sd card drivers. With the rootfs on the sd card is much more convenient for development to update the image than flashing the Edison.

 

I am not really familiar with the development tools that Intel promoted (xdk and what not) that didn't want to run on higher than 14.04 Ubuntu. The support for those in Edison are probable missing now. What I am doing and is pretty straightforward:

  • just copy files from your host with scp, or mount the remote machine with sshfs
  • build the sdk which allows you to cross compile for the Edison on your host (really, you don't want to build on the Edison) and then copy.
  • if you need something that already exists, find the layer on layers.openembedded.org/layerindex/branch/morty/recipes add it, bitbake and copy the deb to the Edison, dpkg -i, and if it works well, add to the image permanently.

 

Where is this going? Pretty much anywhere we want it to. Let me know. My plan is:

  • Follow kernels as release (tomorrow 4.12?)
  • PREEMPT_RT kernel
  • Switch to 64 bit
  • I know 0andriy would like to have ACPI, here help is badly needed to put ACPI support for the Edison into u-boot

 

The new kernel is really very good and responsive, and doesn't crash as easily as the 3.10.14 kernel. Following statistics (histograms) taken with TX looped back to RX and measuring time to encode a 1024 byte payload (base64 encoded, with crc32, parity odd, total 1388 bytes / 15268 bits, 2Mb/s ) and push to the transmit buffer, then to receive and decode. The y-axis is log, so a normal distribution would shows as a parabola. The blue bars with iperf3 have been taken with iperf3 as artificial load (communicating constantly over ethernet at 95Mb/s) which seems a realistic worst case load for a iot edge device. Transmission takes 7.634ms at this baud rate. As you can see, even under heavy load latency is less than 1.1ms. Compare this to 3.10.14 kernel (up to 60ms latency) and 3.10.14-preempt-rt (1ms).

It's true that Korg or Roland would have been able to sell this at a cheaper price if they had been the ones to develop it, but it was developed over years by Roger Linn's very small company, and he's submitted a patent on it, so we must accept that it costs what it costs. And it's my understanding that Roger and Geert wanted to make the firmware on a familiar open-source platform so that it could be easily modified and updated by users. It's rock solid and incredibly responsive. As for the idea that linnstrument is lacking musicality, I must say this could not be further from the truth. Do another search for linnstrument videos, and you'll see the vast majority are extremely musical, and more so than any other midi keyboard/trigger/launcher out there. At first I thought the device was a bit of a gimmick, but the moment I first pressed my fingers down on it and moved them around I was converted, and by that I mean that things like midi keyboards (plastic on-off switches) and aftertouch just feel silly to me now. Even subtractive synthesis as a whole, with its envelopes and LFO modulations, is itself essentially just an antiquated attempt at mimicking the type of organic musical character you will get instantly with a linnstrument, especially when paired with a physical modeling synth like Sculpture. I know I sound crazy, but I'm tellin' you it's the future.

activar un evento mediante una señal

Buen dia amigos.
Soy un poco nuevo en java, tengo un proyecto en arduino el cual conecte a java, este arduino me envia una señal analogica de temperatura que guarde en una variable, deseo accionar un contador cuando esta variable llegue a cierto rango, por ejemplo si llega a 30 grados, deseo q me ayuden ya que tengo el contador pero lo hice con un jbutton quisiera saber si hay alguna manera de accionar ese evento en lugar de presionar el jbutton que se accione solo cuando la variable lleg...

I have been under the understanding that Arduino hardware work is now going to all be on the arduino.cc website. Since Arduino LLC and Arduino SRL reconciled, I have not seen any updates on the Arduino.org product page, so I believe that information found on arduino.org should be discredited at this time. This does not solve all of the issues with quasi-open source (I found a few on the .cc domain), but I believe they are still working out differences there and will fix things up soon(-ish).
