Jawapan Wartawan Kepada Pengkritik Laporan Isu Kerja Ladang Di Australia

Kepada : Akmar Abu Bakar

----------
Terdapat beberapa kesalahan fakta asas dalam ulasan saudara Akmar.
1-Saya bukan wartawan Berita Harian tetapi Utusan Malaysia
2-Di Cutri, saya membuat kerja-kerja thinning, bukannya memetik buah
Maka saya tertanya-tanya sama ada saudara membaca sepenuhnya laporan saya atau sekadar membaca tajuk sahaja?
Sudahkan saudara membaca lapan muka surat laporan khas saya. Sudahkan saudara membaca sepenuhnya tulisan Nick McKenzie dan menonton 7.30 report?
Jika dibaca, pastinya jelas terpampang maklumat asas tadi. Takkan itu pun masih buat silap fakta.
Inilah penyakit orang kita. Dia baca tajuk, dia terus percaya.
Saya pun tak faham sangat kenapa orang kita mudah sangat kena tipu. Gores dan menang pun kena tipu. Alahai...

Maka, izinkanlah saya bertanya:

Kalau naik penerbangan tambang murah, lagilah Imigresen curios. Tengoklah apa soalan dia tanya masa nak masuk.
(HADAMKAN)
As of 30th March 2016 the percentage of Australian residents born overseas are one of its highest in Australian History. The latest statistics show that out of the current Australian Population 156,500 or 0.7 percent are from Malaysia.
These are the legitimate migrants on record till to-date.
The above figures do not include the students who come here yearly to study or the illegal migrants.
According to the statistics for the months of September 2016, there are approximately 35,000 thousand people from Malaysia who visit Australia between August and September of 2016.
The above figures shows us a few crucial facts;
1.The Malaysian Diaspora in Australia is about 156K, and we have a sizeable presence in Australia being the top 10 diaspora in Australia;
2.The Monthly Malaysian Entrants Australia is the top 5 in Australia;
Therefore, whatever happens to the Malaysian community in Australia, has an impact not only to Malaysia reputation but also to the rest of the diaspora that have migrated here or has legitimate business interest in Australia, this includes a series of investments by Malaysian GLC in Australia.
It is also commonly known that Malaysia is the only Southeast Asian country with access to the electronic travel authority system under which Malaysian citizens — and applicants from most of the Western world — can get a three-month tourist visa online.
This is probably the result of the excellent diplomatic relations that is shared between the two countries.
Common sense would dictate that should there be in surge in abuse of this privilege this efficient process is endangered in being scrapped.

Australia tak bodoh, dia bukan tak tahu apa yang pekerja ladang ni buat. Kalau tengok statistik protection visa pun dah kantoi sebab tiba-tiba mendadak naik.
Berikut petikan kenyataan Vicknaraj Thanarajah:
According to the statistic published by the Department of Immigration in Australia, we can gather the following crucial facts;
•Asylum applications from Malaysians lodged while within Australia in the last financial year topped 3500, more than double the total for 2014-15 even though Malaysia is a stable and functioning state, new figures show.
•Immigration department figures show 87 per cent of these applications are refused. Of the reviews conducted by the Migration and Refugee Division of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, 88 per cent validate the original decision.
•The tribunal processed more than 2000 reviews last financial year — a fourfold increase on 2014-15 — representing almost half of its protection claim caseload.
•Details of the recent flood of onshore asylum applications from Malaysia, which totalled just 294 in 2013-4, are contained in documents published on the department’s website.
•In 2014-15, 1401 Malaysians applied for asylum from within Australia. That total surged to 3549 in the 2015-16 year.

Baca lagi petikan kenyataan Vicknaraj Thanarajah:
"Apart from the above financial and legal considerations, these workers need to be aware of the political considerations that are associated with the Horticulture industry in Australia specifically the Fruit Picking Jobs.
The truth is, this is not a new issue; the Malaysians are just a latest wave of workers that are being used by the syndicates as work-stock. Prior to in recent years this there was an uproar on the abuse of Pacific Islanders as illegal workforce and as a result of an inquiry, the illegal workforce have significantly reduce from the Pacific Island.
It is my personal opinion the Malaysians are merely filling in a temporary gap left by the prior inquiry in relation to the Pacific islanders. What the Malaysian migrants need to realise, that the labour dilemma is soon to be solve (at least in part); because a political solution has been reached recently.
The Immigration Department of Australia will be launching a special class of visa (416) to enable Pacific islanders to work in the horticulture industry seasonally. This is supposed to commence by the 19th of November 2016.
Unfortunately Malaysia is not on the list as that particular visa caters for Pacific Islanders.
The hypocrisy of politics are blinding, the blatant fact remains that there is a need for workers in the horticulture industry especially in rural Australia, and the industry and the syndicates are filling that gap and need.
The syndicates take advantage on this legal and economic arbitrage simply because workers are voiceless because of their legal status in Australia.
Rhetorically, Corporations, Farmers and Authorities, at the Federal, State and Local Government manage the blame efficiently and seamlessly each respectively pleading ignorance of the existence of such syndicates and illegal workforce.
This plea of ignorance is laughable, especially with the example of the case of Swan Hill a rural town in regional Victoria is swarming with Malaysians Workforce.
The issue and the challenge now is whether the Australia Government specifically the Minister responsible for Immigration is going to provide an empty political retort by conveniently electing to enforce a pre-existing law or a sound policy resolution that is sustainable and future proof for all those affected by the labour shortage.
For the sake Human Dignity and Decency, I challenge the Minister to extend the same opportunity for Malaysians to enable them to apply as seasonal workers in the Horticultural Industry.
Alternative expand the quota of Sub Class 462 Work Holiday Visa which is currently fixed at 100 visa for Malaysian per annum.

Malaysia, Australia bincang isu kedatangan migran
LIMA, Peru 20 Nov.

4- Pepatah orang dahulu jauh berjalan luas pengalaman.
Betul ke tidak.
1000 peratus saya sokong. Sebab saya sendiri suka berjalan. Sejak 2006 sampai sekarang, dah 24-25 negara saya dah pergi.
Hahahaha...hal politik tak perlu masuk lah bro.

So, as I described over at my other blog, on Thursday last I went to the first in a two part class at Busy Bees on how to make a beautiful felt embroidered bag.  Normally I do quilt classes there but I like the fact that they also run these associated needlework courses.  The bag was made from a lovely piece of rather gorgeous felt, in a rich cerise colour.  It was difficult to choose a colour, as there were so many lovely ones, and I was not familiar with working or stitching on this type of surface.  In the class, we were shown how to make a simple template for our bag, then cut out the felt and the batting and glued these together.  Very simple so far! Then came the fun part - embroidery.  Sandra, our wonderful tutor gathered us round, and demonstrated a variety of stitches to us.  Each of us had been given a practice piece of felt and batting to work with and I was using a new type of thread to me, perle, space dyed in lovely bright shades, and much chunkier needles than I am used to using for my cross stitch.  It was lovely to sit round in a circle with Sandra teaching us, making our first faltering attempts and Sandra kindly showing us again and again so patiently and cheerfully what to do.  The class was full of laughter and smiles as we got to grips with our new stitches, and I was amazed when it was half past twelve and time to go.  Sandra had equipped us with the ideas and tools to decorate our bags so our job was to to go home and wield our needles, and do the decorative stitching before returning next week, to make a handle, sew the bag together and add a fastening.

On getting home, I realised that I needed to practice some of the new stitches and had an idea.  I bought some felt at the local craft store, and cut out some Christmas ornament shapes using a template from a card making goody bag.  My Crop a dile punched a hole in the top for a ribbon, and added a decorative hole finisher (never sure of the right word for these!).  Then I did little rows of stitching and added pretty gold and coloured seed beads to give twinkle and dimension.  The effect was pretty and festive and I liked it, although I need to keep practicing.

The pics attached show the finished festive ornaments and the bag in the various stages as stitching and then beading was added.

          Republican Campaign Preview

ST. LOUIS—Dick Gephardt's congressional district is Busch country, if not Bush country, so if you're going to hold a Republican presidential campaign rally in a Democratic stronghold, this one's as appropriate as any. Mary Matalin, who's on board the Bush-Cheney '04 team as a campaign adviser, is in town with a phalanx of Missouri Republicans. I'd say she's in town to distract media attention from the Democratic primary in the largest of the Feb. 3 states, except there's pretty much no Democratic campaign to speak of in Missouri. As a result, Missourians appear more interested in the Democratic primary for governor, between incumbent Gov. Bob Holden and State Auditor Claire McCaskill, than in presidential politics.

The Bush rally does, however, provide some insight into the general-election campaign message that the Bush-Cheney campaign is trying out. If the Democratic primaries and caucuses over the next four or five weeks are a referendum on John Kerry's electability, it's worth knowing what he's expected to be electable against. Monday's rally is the second Republican event I've attended this campaign—the other was in Nashua, N.H., where John McCain stumped for the president—and the president's re-election argument, as advanced by his surrogates, couldn't be clearer. The Republicans want the threshold question of this election to be: On Sept. 11 and Sept. 12, 2001, would you rather have had George W. Bush as president or his Democratic opponent?

Both Bush rallies that I've attended emphasize the idea that the president merits re-election as a reward for past performance, as much as—or even more than—any promise of future results. "On Sept. 11, when this nation faced in many respects the greatest threat to our security, President Bush stood forward, led this nation with clarity and with strength, which has earned him the admiration and appreciation of the overwhelming majority of Americans, and I believe has earned him another term as president of the United States of America," McCain said in Nashua. The speakers at Monday's event strike similar notes. "This is a man who has restored peace to the American homeland, after we suffered the worst attack we have suffered here since Pearl Harbor," U.S. Sen. Jim Talent says. U.S. Sen. Kit Bond puts it this way: "I'm most concerned about the war on terror. When Sept. 11, 2001, hit us, George Bush knew what to do."

Al Gore tried to run on the Clinton record of peace and prosperity. The Bush campaign looks like it will run on arguable prosperity and war. Kerry's line that the war on terrorism is as much a law-enforcement and intelligence-gathering operation as it is a military one is derided. "There's only one person gonna be running for president in November of this year who believes that the war against terrorism is a war, against a transnational army that attacked and every day threatens the people of the United States, not a law enforcement action against a few stray criminals," Talent says. Matalin concurs. "This is not a law enforcement effort, as has been said. This is a war. This is a global war. This is a war between barbarism and civilization."

Local boy John Ashcroft and the Patriot Act receive a heaping of praise. "John Ashcroft and the Bush administration have been successful," Bond says. "According to the FBI director, at least 100 planned terrorist attacks, underway for the United States, were disrupted because they used the Patriot Act. Thanks heavens we have the Patriot Act and we have somebody like John Ashcroft ..." I think Bond's concluding phrase is "who's going to use it," but I can't hear him over the crowd's applause. This is Bizarro World when compared to the Democratic campaign trail, where Ashcroft is deemed a supervillain second only to Karl Rove.

"The polls show that one of our colleagues in the United States Senate is leading in the Democratic primary here," continues Bond, referring to Kerry. "He wants to get rid of the Patriot Act. He voted for it, now he doesn't like it." The effectiveness of that line is undercut by Bond's demagogic follow-up: "Personally, I like being free of terrorist attacks." The crowd laughs appreciatively. Later, Matalin says that John Ashcroft is more than a mere terrorist-fighting, cell-breaking, plot-disrupting attorney general. "John Ashcroft is a hero."

Argument No. 3 is that the missing weapons of mass destruction in Iraq are irrelevant. Partly, because as McCain said back in New Hampshire, "Saddam Hussein acquired weapons of mass destruction, he used weapons of mass destruction against his own people and his enemies, and there is no expert that I know that doesn't believe that if Saddam Hussein was still in power he would be attempting to acquire weapons of mass destruction."

But the humanitarian benefits of the Iraq war are emphasized more than the threat posed by Saddam. In Nashua, McCain cited a mass grave of 3,000 "men, women, and children," and added, "My friends, when those 8- and 9-year-old boys were let out of prison in Baghdad, our effort and our sacrifice was justified." Matalin compares Bush's hope for a democratic Iraq to the hopes of Islamic radicals. "There are forces that want to go backwards, that are for oppression, repressing women, there is no freedom, versus going forward into the modern world," she says.

After the event is over, I tell Matalin that the Republican pitch sounds backward-looking. OK, people liked President Bush after 9/11. But that's not an agenda. What's the president's plan going forward? "This is a generational commitment to get this job done," she says. "It took 60 years of a policy of hypocrisy, turning the other way when there was oppression and tyranny in that region, to create this kind of terrorism against America. So, getting a whole region to bring in the hallmarks of a modern state, private property, human rights, rights for women, a judicial system, market principles, it takes more than a campaign cycle. So, he reversed a 60-year policy that wasn't working in the region, and he is putting in place, which is going to take more than one term or two terms, collective security arrangements for the 21st century."

That's a mouthful. And it sets up what I think will be the most intriguing question of the general election. Which candidate will succeed in portraying himself as the internationalist in the race? The Democratic contenders push cooperation, alliances, and multilateral institutions, but they also use nationalist rhetoric to tar Bush for spending money abroad rather than spending it at home (say, "opening firehouses in Baghdad and closing them in the United States," a Kerry line). Taking off on some of that nationalist rhetoric, the Bush surrogates describe Democrats as isolationists who want the United States to abandon its leadership role in the world. The Democrats respond by describing President Bush as a unilateralist who abandoned the nation's role as a global leader. Who will succeed in defining himself as a broad-minded internationalist and his opponent as a narrow-minded nationalist? Our next president.

Comment on Thank You – Black Tie Beach 2013 by Dmitry Smelansky
Brighton Beach is known for its high population of Russian-speaking immigrants. When they asked me what's going on I replied that we all are Russians and we like dressing up even going to the beach. When we want to de-Americanize - we are losing the T-shirts & jeans style and dressing up! That confused even more. https://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=10200417214535047&set=p.10200417214535047&type=1&theater
          Wesley Clark's Loose Lips

Whether it's true or not, Gen. Wesley Clark's rise in the polls in New Hampshire is being partly attributed to some voters having "cold feet" about former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, especially Dean's penchant for making statements that are quickly seized upon by Fox News or the Republican Party as evidence of unpatriotic disloyalty. But Clark has the same propensity for speaking imprecisely off the cuff. Here are some statements I heard him make last week during my trip with him in New Hampshire:

Bush was "warned" about 9/11? "President Bush didn't do his job as commander in chief in the early months of his administration. He was warned that the greatest threat to the United States of America was Osama Bin Laden, yet on the 11th of September in 2001, the United States had no plan for dealing with the threat posed by Osama Bin Laden. The ship of state was on autopilot. There were good CIA officers and FBI officers and everybody doing what they'd been taught to do, but the essential leadership process of putting focus on the resources of the United States, and giving these agencies a real target and a mission, it wasn't done. At least, I think that's what the evidence will show if we ever get the results of this presidential commission, and if they've asked the right questions." (Jan. 6, McKelvieMiddle School, Bedford.)

Bush "never intended" to get Osama Bin Laden? "We bombed Afghanistan, we missed Osama Bin Laden, partly because the president never intended to put the resources in to get Osama Bin Laden. All along, right after 9/11, they'd made their mind up, I guess, that we were going to go after Saddam Hussein. That's what people in the Pentagon told me. And they capped the resources, stopped the commitment to Afghanistan, and started shifting to prepare to go after Saddam Hussein." (Jan. 6, McKelvieMiddle School, Bedford.)

There wasn't a single terrorist in Iraq before the war? "The president was not and has not been held accountable yet for misleading the American people. He is continuing to associate Saddam, Iraq, and the problem of terrorism. Yet the only terrorists that are in Iraq are the people that have come there to attack us." (Jan. 7, Town House, Peterborough.)

Fifty-five million voters are "ill-informed" dupes of the Christian right? "Now, there's one party in America that's made the United Nations the enemy. And I don't know how many of you have ever read that series of books that's published by the Christian right that's called the "Left Behind" series? Probably nobody's read it up here. But don't feel bad, I'm not recommending it to you. I'm just telling you that according to the book cover that I saw in the airport, 55 million copies have been printed. And in it, the Antichrist is the United Nations. And so there's this huge, ill-informed body of sentiment out there that's just grinding away against the United Nations." (Jan. 7, FullerElementary School, Keene.)

Does Islam need an Enlightenment or just Match.com? "Young men in an Islamic culture cannot get married until they can support a family. No job, no marriage. No marriage, unhappy young men. They get real angry, they feel real frustrated, they feel real powerless. And a certain number of them are being exploited in the mosques by this recruiting network." (Jan. 8, Havenwoods Heritage Heights senior center, Concord.)

President Bush doesn't even want to find Bin Laden? "Newsweek magazine says he's in the mountains of western Pakistan. And I guess if Newsweek could find him there, we could, too, if we wanted to." (Jan. 8, Havenwoods Heritage Heights senior center, Concord.)

This is the Water: Twin Peaks, Roswell and the Siren's Song (UPDATE)

Please tell me you're watching the new season of Twin Peaks.

Like nearly everyone else my jaw is still on the floor after last night's episode. All the more so since it seems to very closely align with a topic I explored in great detail last year and that's the explosion of the atom bomb seeming to open some kind of doorway that allowed something dangerous to enter into our reality.

And whatever it is that crossed over seems to possess us and use us to its own ends, as we seem to be seeing in recent posts.

Lynch paints this picture in a way that simultaneously feels like a fever dream, Stanley Kubrick's lost masterpiece and some kind of bizarre MK Ultra conditioning session. As we'll see, this episode drew heavily on the work of Leslie Stevens and Joseph Stefano's Outer Limits, so much so that it played like a tribute.

It's going to take time to sort through but this series seems like a oracle. It feels less like television and more like revelation. Lynch is tapped into something very deep, very dark and very important.

And it's only because of the conjunction of Chris Cornell's death and the return of Twin Peaks that I got thrown back down the Siren's well. I really thought I was done and good with the story but it so happened that the story wasn't done with me.

It wasn't until I started putting some of the pieces together that I began to see how Twin Peaks, Chris Cornell and the Siren's song have been locked in a spiderweb of synchronicity since the very beginning.

Pay attention here- someone may be trying to tell us a story in the same nonlinear manner David Lynch is telling the new Twin Peaks.

Chris Cornell 's only acting credit is the Cameron Crowe film Singles. He appears onscreen with Bridget Fonda.

Bridget Fonda also appears onscreen with Bill Pullman in Singles.

Bill Pullman appears in the David Lynch film, Lost Highway, which features Elizabeth Fraser's version of 'Song to the Siren'

UPDATE: Still don't believe in the dark power of the Siren's Song?

In Lost Highway, Bill Pullman plays a musician falsely accused of murdering his wife, played by Patricia Arquette (who was cast as Jeff Buckley's mother in an unproduced biopic). Though never really explained it's implied that the Mystery Man, played by Robert Blake, is responsible for the murder.

In May 2002- same month the Jeff Buckley biography Everyone Here Wants You aired on British television- Robert Blake was accused of murdering his wife, Bonnie Lee Bakely, in back of a restaurant in Los Angeles.

Just months after David Lynch's Mulholland Dr - a film about an actress (Naomi Watts†) who has her lover killed - had depicted a memorable scene about a looming horror in back of a Los Angeles restaurant.

Mulholland Dr was originally produced as a TV movie after Lynch made Lost Highway.

Blake was acquitted on account of there was no evidence to tie him to the crime, and the only testimony came from two stuntmen associated with Bakely's former lover, the convicted murderer Christian Brando.

Brando shot and killed his sister's lover at Marlon Brando's residence on- wait for it- Mulholland Dr.

And "Bakely?"
The name Bakley belongs to the early history of Britain, its origins lie with the Anglo-Saxons. It is a product of their having lived in any of the places named Buckley, or Buckleigh, in England.
Bakely's daughters later successfully sued Blake for wrongful death.

Lost Highway was Jack Nance's last role. He died under mysterious circumstances before the film was released. David Lynch produced a documentary in his honor, released 2002.

A special thanks to longtime Shemsu Sunner Devin. I knew there was something I was overlooking.

Patricia Arquette is featured in the Lost Highway's 'Song to the Siren' scene.

Arquette also stars in True Romance, which she plays the lover of a young man who is channeling Elvis Presley, who died in Memphis and whose statue overlooks the site of Jeff Buckley's death. Arquette was cast to play Jeff Buckley's mother in the unproduced docudrama Mystery White Boy.

True Romance also features Brad Pitt and this memorable use of Chris Cornell's MDD anthem, 'Outshined'.

Brad Pitt appears in Jeff Buckley documentary Everybody Here Wants You, which also features Elizabeth Fraser.

Chris Cornell's tribute to Jeff Buckley, 'Wave Goodbye,' is played on the TV series Roswell, set (of course) in New Mexico

Roswell star William Sadler played Death in Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, starring Keanu (or Ki-Anu) Reeves

Keanu Reeves played Buddha in Little Buddha, with Bridget Fonda and Chris Isaak

Chris Isaak starred in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, the franchise's last chapter until 2017.

Ben Rosenfield appears in its next chapter.

Rosenfield's first feature film role is portraying Tim Buckley in the Jeff Buckley biopic, Greetings From Tim Buckley.

Roswell's William Sadler portrays Lee Underwood (the guitarist on the Starsailor version of 'Song to the Siren') in Greetings from Tim Buckley.

Tim Buckley's first public recording of 'Song to the Siren' first heard on the "Frodis Caper" episode of The Monkees, whose plot revolved around the capture of a flying saucer.

The 1994 TV movie Roswell revolved around the capture of a flying saucer in New Mexico.

It aired the very same day Soundgarden played the Fox Theater in Atlanta. Cornell died after Soundgarden played the Fox Theater in Detroit.

Soundgarden performs live in Singles, playing 'Birth Ritual'. Singles co-star Bill Pullman later stars in Independence Day which centers on a UFO captured at Roswell.

Roswell starred Kyle MacLachlan, who portrays Dale Cooper on Twin Peaks.

Cooper emerges from the Black Lodge into a storeroom where characters played by Rosenfeld and Madeline Zima were last seen.

Madeline Zima starred on Californication (itself loaded with Siren symbolism) alongside David Duchovny.

David Duchovny played a cross-dressing FBI agent on Twin Peaks. He'd later play another FBI agent on The X-Files.

Duchovny would later be replaced on The X-Files by Robert Patrick, brother of original Nine Inch Nails guitarist Richard Patrick (whose band Filter recorded the rock theme for the first X-Files movie).

Robert Patrick first appears on X-Files same episode 'Scully's Theme' first heard, which was based on Elizabeth Fraser's 'Song of the Siren'.

Don Davis, who portrayed Major Garland Briggs on Twin Peaks, appeared as Scully's father on The X-Files. Davis's first appearance on The X-Files was in 'Beyond the Sea', which also guest-starred Brad Dourif.

Brad Dourif appeared in Blue Velvet, the film where Lynch tried and failed to secure rights to Elizabeth Fraser's version of 'Song to the Siren'. That film starred Laura Dern, who also appears on the new Twin Peaks.

Laura Dern first appears in Episode 6, which also features this very Blue Velvet-like performance by Balthazar Getty, Patricia Arquette's lover during Lost Highway's playing of  'Song to the Siren'.

'Song to the Siren' was produced by John Fryer, who also produced the prophetic 'In the Gold Dust Rush.'

Fryer also produced the first Nine Inch Nails album.

Nine Inch Nails toured with David Bowie in 1995.

David Bowie appears in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me.

Nine Inch Nails appear on Twin Peaks episode that centers around a locust chimera that possesses a girl through the mouth.

The Nine Inch Nails' album The Downward Spiral was released the same day as Soundgarden's Superunknown

Trent Reznor appears in 2014 documentary Beautiful Noise, about Cocteau Twins and the movement they inspired.

Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden toured together in 2014. They opened in Las Vegas.

Downward Spiral, which was recorded at Manson-massacre house 10050 Cielo Drive, features a sample from the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre on the song 'Reptile'.*

Texas Chainsaw Massacre's 2003 remake features cover of Fraser's cover of "Song to the Siren."

David Bowie and Trent Reznor sang "Reptile" as a duet on their 1995 tour.

Three days before Downward Spiral released Jeff Buckley and Elizabeth Fraser began their love affair in Atlanta, sparked by Fraser's version of 'Song to the Siren'.

Fraser is from the Falkirk council area of Scotland, which boasts two enormous statues of the Kelpie, the Scottish water-demon version of the Siren, that shapeshifts from horse to human.

Falkirk is a half-hour's drive from Rosewell, the town that borders the Rosslyn Chapel.

There's locusts in her honey mouth

In the final scene of Episode 8, the possessed young girl is mesmerized by the incantation of a demon who chants an incantation that wouldn't sound out of place on Garlands:

"This is the water and this is the well. Drink full and descend.  The horse is the white of the eyes, and dark within."

Like the Sirens and the mermaids, the entity is a chimera of a frog and a locust, both plagues that Moses brought down on Egypt in Exodus.

Elizabeth Fraser's only solo releases are the singles 'Underwater' and 'Moses'.

The girl in Twin Peaks is played by Tikaeni Faircrest. Tikeani is an Inuit word meaning "Wolf."

After the girl is possessed you hear horses in the desert. Or perhaps it's the Kelpie.

The published lyrics for the song NIN played on Twin Peaks reuses a lyric from 'Reptile': "she leaves a trail of honey to show me where she's been." That line is not on the final recording.

Spirit possession, honey, mouth, locusts. Oh, plus gold that isn't really gold. Why does that all sound so familiar?

Spy vs Spy: Stuck in the Funhouse

Funhouses are only fun when you can leave them. When the distorting mirror images become your new, day-to-day reality construct, then it's not so much fun anymore.

I dreaded the 2016 Election because I had a very strong feeling that no matter who won we'd be plunged into a dystopian paradigm in which major power blocs would erupt into all-out warfare. And I sensed that neither Trump nor Clinton possessed the political skills or the communicative powers to keep the carnage fully out of our view. Or our path.

And I was right.

Trump's only been in office for a little over two months and I'm exhausted already. I'm certainly not alone in this. It all feels like a TV sitcom in its seventh season, well after the writers ran out of story ideas. The shark has been good and jumped. And the ratings (the approval ratings, in this case) are plunging too.

What is truly demoralizing though is the utter transparency of the secret war playing out, the seemingly endless spy vs spy thrust and counter-thrust, and the obvious deceptions. Even more so is the Animal Farm-like metamorphosis of the Democratic Party into a full-blown, funhouse mirror of McCarthy-era Republicans, but with Glenn Beck-worthy conspiracy theories thrown in for good measure.

I don't know about you but all of a sudden the world seems especially cold, hard, gray, harsh. Masks are coming off, velvet gloves tossed into wastebins. It doesn't seem to matter who wins the scorpion fight, you're still stuck with a scorpion.

We can't call out the play-by-play because it's largely being acted out behind closed doors. But we can look at the collateral damage and make certain speculations. There's no doubt that it would all be just as bad-- probably worse-- if Hillary won. Even so, this all feels especially grating.

You've probably seen this story:
Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones on Friday apologized to the owner of a Washington pizzeria that became the subject of a conspiracy theory about human trafficking last year.
Pizza shop Comet Ping Pong was thrust into the spotlight last year after a gunman allegedly fired a shot inside the restaurant. The suspect said he was investigating the unsubstantiated conspiracy theory that Hillary Clinton and her campaign chairman, John Podesta, were operating a child sex trafficking ring out of the restaurant.
The theory, which became known as Pizzagate, had circulated among far-right conspiracy theory websites and social media accounts.
“In our commentary about what had become known as Pizzagate, I made comments about Mr. Alefantis that in hindsight I regret, and for which I apologize to him,” Jones, who runs Infowars, said in a video. James Alefantis is the owner of Comet Ping Pong.
Jones said his website relied on reporters who are no longer employed by Infowars and that video reports about Pizzagate were removed from the website. He also invited Alefantis onto the show to discuss the incident.
It was preceded by this story:
FBI’S RUSSIA PROBE EXPANDS TO INCLUDE ‘PIZZAGATE’ THREATS
According to McClatchy News, the FBI’s Russian-influence probe agents are exploring whether far-right news operations, including the pro-Donald Trump sites Breitbart News and Infowars, “took any actions to assist Russia’s operatives.”  Trump’s ousted national security adviser Michael Flynn and his son, a member of the Trump transition team, were among those who boosted the so-called “PizzaGate” pedophile conspiracy theory.
I doubt this will quell the fervor among the Pizzagaters on sites like 4chan and Voat. Given the suspicion many on the fringes regard Jones with it may in fact give the flagging movement a fresh jolt. Jones' apology may also have to do with the drive to purge YouTube of "extremist" content and the controversy over the use of advertising on videos corporate clients find objectionable. A World without Sin, as our Gordon might put it.

Washington Post headline, pre-election.

So much for theories that the FBI was ready to make mass arrests of prominent Washington figures related to Pizzagate.  Has any "mass arrest" Internet story ever panned out?

Maybe it has:
Donald Trump became president on Jan. 20. And in one short month, there were more than 1,500 arrests for sex crimes ranging from trafficking to pedophilia.
Big deal? You bet. In all of 2014, there were fewer than 400 sex trafficking-related arrests, according to FBI crime statistics. Liz Crokin at TownHall.com has put together a great piece on the push by the Trump administration to crack down on sex crimes. And she notes that while "this should be one of the biggest stories in the national news... the mainstream media has barely, if at all, covered any of these mass pedophile arrests. This begs the question – why?
This may have nothing to do with Trump-- in fact, it's likely it doesn't-- since these kinds of actions are planned out months in advance. The arrests continue, in case you were wondering, with major busts going down on a near-weekly basis. Someone's cleaning house.

For what it's worth, I always reckoned that Pizzagate was in fact cover/distraction for a more hidden struggle, one that would take place under the radar*. As I noted back in November:

No one is saying as much but this very much feels connected to a deeper, more covert war.
Why would I say such a thing? Because at the same time the Pizzagate story went dark we've seen major strikes taken against international pedophilia, which actually is a global conspiracy, with its own networks, secret codes and moles within established centers of power such as schools, police departments and governments.
With such combustible accusations-- and such potential for a scandal that could quickly spread out of control (ie., involve political figures you're not trying to destroy)-- you'd naturally expect the action to go dark and the fall guys to be placed pretty far down the foodchain. (Remember that a prior investigation bagged one of the most powerful people in Washington at one time, former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert).†

"EVER WONDER WHAT IT'D BE LIKE TO DIE IN A PLANE CRASH?"

It may be sheer coincidence, but James Alefantis' former partner suffered a major heart attack this week
Media Matters for America founder David Brock was rushed to a hospital on Tuesday after suffering a heart attack.
According to a press release from MMA, the founder of the liberal media watchdog and analysis website was rushed to the hospital early Tuesday afternoon and received treatment.
Sure, it may be coincidence. But I couldn't help but remember this story, published soon after the election
Dems to David Brock: Stop Helping, You Are Killing Us
Democrats know they need someone to lead them out of the wilderness. But, they say, that someone is not David Brock.

As David Brock attempts to position himself as a leader in rebuilding ademoralized Democratic Party in the age of Trump, many leading Democratic organizers and operatives are wishing the man would simply disappear.

"Disappear." Huh.
Many in the party—Clinton loyalists, Obama veterans, and Bernie supporters alike—talk about the man not as a sought-after ally in the fight against Trumpism, but as a nuisance and a hanger-on, overseeing a colossal waste of cash. And former employees say that he has hurt the cause.
It's worth remembering that Breitbart.com Andrew Breitbart died of a heart attack at the age of 43. A year before he'd posted a cryptic tweet that some have since linked to the Pizzagate imbroglio.  Just before his death he hyped some revelation about Barack Obama's past.

A coroner in the office handling Breitbart's body subsequently died of arsenic poisoning. The day Breitbart's autopsy results were revealed, in fact.

COME BACK ROY COHN, ALL IS FORGIVEN

We also saw James Comey revive Russiagate, which had been flatlining after Vault 7. Any illusions among Trump fans that the FBI was secretly on their side were ground into powder, between this revelation and the Pizzagate conspiracy investigations.

One can't help but wonder if the New Praetorians (I've noticed that the Praetorian meme has been picked up by more prominent commentators, but you heard it here first) are losing their last shred of patience with Donald Trump's shenanigans and are planning imminent regime change:
WASHINGTON (AP) — The FBI is investigating whether Donald Trump’s associates coordinated with Russian officials in an effort to sway the 2016 presidential election, Director James Comey said Monday in an extraordinary public confirmation of a probe the president has refused to acknowledge, dismissed as fake news and blamed on Democrats.
In a bruising five-hour session, the FBI director also knocked down Trump’s claim that his predecessor had wiretapped his New York skyscraper, an assertion that has distracted White House officials and frustrated fellow Republicans who acknowledge they’ve seen no evidence to support it.
How surreal is the world in which you know live in? So much so that mainstream political site The Hill is comparing the action in Washington to a Stanley Kubrick film, one which has become notorious for the conspiracy theories that have been projected onto it (and is well familiar to Synchronauts):
On the 40th anniversary of the publication of The Shining, Stephen King must be wondering if Washington is working on its own sequel. For the last couple months, Washington has been on edge, like we are all trapped in Overlook Hotel with every day bringing a new “jump scare,” often preceded by a telltale tweet. Indeed, a Twitter whistle has replaced suspenseful music to put the entire city on the edge of their seats.
In this Shining sequel, however, people are sharply divided on who is the deranged ax-wielding villain in this lodge, the president or the press. Ironically, with the recent disclosure that some of the Trump campaign may indeed have been subject to surveillance, the president is looking more like Danny Torrence, a character dismissed for constantly muttering “redrum, redrum” until someone finally looked in a mirror at the reverse image to see the true message.
Yeah, I'm not really feeling that metaphor there, but whatever. It's been that kind of year.

Now the Internet is burning up with theories that disgraced National Security Adviser Michael Flynn has "turned" and is going to testify against the Trump Administration, or at least figures attached to it.

It's hard to imagine a three-star general can be stupid enough to be guilty of things Flynn's been accused of but that may speak to a culture of impunity in Washington, in which your misdeeds are only punished if you get on the wrong side of the wrong people.

LIKE A BAD CYBERPUNK NOVEL

One wonders if the secret war has spread outside Washington. Car service giant Uber seems to be having a major run of rotten luck lately:
Uber Technologies Inc. is suspending its self-driving car program after one of its autonomous vehicles was involved in a high-impact crash in Tempe, Arizona, the latest incident for a company reeling from multiple crises.
In a photo posted on Twitter, one of Uber’s Volvo self-driving SUVs is pictured on its side next to another car with dents and smashed windows. An Uber spokeswoman confirmed the incident, and the veracity of the photo, and added that the ride-hailing company is suspending its autonomous tests in Arizona until it completes its investigation and pausing its Pittsburgh operations.

The incident also comes as Uber, and Chief Executive Officer Travis Kalanick, are currently under scrutiny because of a series of scandals. The ride-hailing company has been accused of operating a sexist workplace. This month, the New York Times reported that Uber used a tool called Greyball to help drivers evade government regulators and enforcement officials. Kalanick said he needed "leadership help" after Bloomberg published a video showing him arguing with an Uber driver.
So who did Kalanick piss off?

Coincidentally- there's that word again- the crash comes soon after Wikileaks revealed that CIA hackers had the ability to override the computer systems in automobiles. From Mashable:

WikiLeaks has published a trove of files it says are linked to the CIA's hacking operations — which apparently includes efforts to hack into cars.
The first in a series called "Vault 7," "Year Zero" supposedly comprises 8,761 documents and files from an isolated, high-security network situated inside the CIA's Center for Cyber Intelligence in Langley, Virginia.
"Year Zero" details the CIA's malware arsenal and "zero day" exploits against Apple iPhones, Google's Android operating system, Microsoft Windows and even Samsung TVs.
According to a document from 2014, the CIA was also looking at infecting the vehicle control systems used by modern cars and trucks.
Oh, that's reassuring. Speaking of control systems, apparently pimps are controlling prostitutes with RFID chips:
It turns out this 20-something woman was being pimped out by her boyfriend, forced to sell herself for sex and hand him the money.
“It was a small glass capsule with a little almost like a circuit board inside of it,” he said. “It's an RFID chip. It's used to tag cats and dogs. And someone had tagged her like an animal, like she was somebody's pet that they owned.”
This is human trafficking. It’s a marginal issue here in the U.S. for most of us. Part of that is because the average person isn’t sure what human trafficking – or modern day slavery – actually means.
Technology is our friend, right? And now this:
Turkish Hackers Threaten To Wipe Millions Of iPhones; Demand Ransom From Apple
Today, courtesy of CIO, we learn that a group of hackers referring to themselves as the "Turkish Crime Family", has been in direct contact with Apple and is demanding a $150,000 ransom by April 7th or they will proceed to wipe as many as 600 million apple devices for which they allegedly have passwords.
The group said via email that it has had a database of about 519 million iCloud credentials for some time, but did not attempt to sell it until now. The interest for such accounts on the black market has been low due to security measures Apple has put in place in recent years, it said.

Since announcing its plan to wipe devices associated with iCloud accounts, the group claimed that other hackers have stepped forward and shared additional account credentials with them, putting the current number it holds at over 627 million.

According to the hackers, over 220 million of these credentials have been verified to work and provide access to iCloud accounts that don't have security measures like two-factor authentication turned on.

Of course, if credible, with an ask of just $150k, this is the most modest group of hackers we've ever come across.
Given the war that's erupted between the increasingly aggressive Turkish government and the EU, money may clearly not be the object here. Turkish PM Erdogan is clearly set on reconstructing the old Ottoman Empire and shivving Apple might just be part of the march.

Besides, Turkey is taking that recent coup attempt-- which is almost universally blamed on the CIA-- very personally.

Speaking of the EU, we've seen stories that Trump advisor Steve Bannon wants to dissolve the union. Which may be why Trump-adversary John McCain announced his unalloyed support for it- and the "New World Order" (his words, not mine):
The world "cries out for American and European leadership" through the EU and Nato, US senator John McCain said on Friday (24 March).
In a "new world order under enormous strain" and in "the titanic struggle with forces of radicalism … we can't stand by and lament, we've got to be involved," said McCain, a former Republican presidential candidate who is now chairman of the armed services committee in the US Senate.
Speaking at the Brussels Forum, a conference organised by the German Marshall Fund, a transatlantic think tank, he said that the EU and the US needed to develop "more cooperation, more connectivity".
"I trust the EU," he said, defending an opposite view from that of US president Donald Trump, who said in January that the UK "was so smart in getting out" of the EU and that Nato was "obsolete".
He said that the EU was "one of the most important alliances" for the US and that the EU and Nato were "the best two sums in history", which have maintained peace for the last 70 years. "We need to rely on Nato and have a Nato that adjusts to new challenges," he said.
Would McCain speak this way to a domestic audience? Of course not. Or maybe he would- I can't tell which way is up anymore. But either way it's good to know where he really stands.

Like McCain, China continues to sound a similar note of support for globalization, on which its very economic survival so desperately depends:
Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli told a gathering of Asian leaders that the world must commit to multilateral free trade under the World Trade Organization and needs to reform global economic governance.
“The river of globalization and free trade will always move forward with unstoppable momentum to the vast ocean of the global economy,” Zhang said. China will remain a strong force in the world economy and for peace and stability, he said, adding that countries must respect one another’s core interests and refrain from undermining regional stability.
I suppose this is why China is off the target list for our new Cold (?) Warriors.

I've resisted posting on all this because it's all so depressing. I've actually written a few pieces on this chicanery that I ended up roundfiling. But I suppose I just wanted to go on the record about all this skullduggery, for posterity's sake.

UPDATE: Sex trafficking arrests and trials continue to proliferate. Most recent bust, an international ring in Minnesota. There is way too much activity going down in too short a time for this to be spontaneous.

* Which is exactly why I refrained from commenting on it here for the most part, instead noting that it had become a kind of memetic virus in much the same way that the Franklin/Boy's Town scandal had in the 90s. (Note that prior to the election-- and Pizzagate-- Trump nemesis the Washington Post was all over the issue of sex trafficking in the nation's capital).

† The ongoing legal and police actions coinciding with the moves to shut down the Pizzagate fringes on the Web seem like the exact kind of action one would expect if there were a serious operation at work. Shutting down the Internet chatter makes perfect sense in this context because it can only complicate cases made by prosecutors.
Comment on Accused CIA Rapist’s Alleged Victims Did Not File Local Charges by Lissakrhumanelife
Reblogged this on <a href="http://lissakr11humanelife.wordpress.com/2012/12/06/17938/" rel="nofollow">USA COINTELPRO VICTIM OF THE PATRIOT ACT</a> and commented: Interesting tidbits continue to shake out from the strange case of Andrew Warren, the erstwhile CIA station chief in Algeria accused of date rape.First is the overlooked statement of Algeria’s interior minister that the two “local” Muslim women who complained to U.S. embassy officials that Warren spiked their cocktails for nonconsensual sex hold “dual citizenship,” presumably American and Algerian. That could at least partly explain why the women did not file local criminal charges against Warren, the other reason being that the CIA’s top man in Algeria worked under State Department cover, theoretically giving him diplomatic immunity. Another factor is that in Muslim countries where the legal code adheres more or less to Islamic sharia law, women face prohibitive hurdles against filing rape charges, including a requirement to come up with as many as four male witnesses. It’s also not uncommon for victims to be punished. But Interior Minister M. Noureddine Y. Zerhouni said last month that “the agent [Warren] is subject [to] an investigation which is still ongoing,” according to an Algerian news site. Zerhouini also said “that the sexual scandal of the CIA man in Algeria could be connected to the U.S. intelligence framework of recruiting the victims to work with the CIA,” according to the report. And not just in Algeria. “Egypt compiled a list of names of women who frequently visited the American institutions in Egypt at the time, to investigate if they were recruited for the CIA,” it said. U.S. investigators have reportedly found more than two dozen videotapes that Warren allegedly made of his sexual escapades. Meanwhile, Warren’s steamy novel of sex and terrorism set in – you guessed it – Algeria, has gotten its first bad reviews. See also: CIA Man Accused of Rape Claimed to Be FBI Agent in Parking Row CIA Station Chief in Algeria Accused of Rapes A visitor to the Amazon.com site that features “People of the Veil” published in 2002, noted that the half dozen reviews that accompanied the book’s publication in 2002 were oddly uniform in their praise. “What cracks me up is that the prior gushing reviews are all but one, by single one time reviewers, who appear with Amazon accounts at the time the item is listed, and never review nothing [sic] else, classic indicators they are all likely shill reviews by the author.” Another amateur reviewer made a crack about the charges against Warren, and then claimed to find a curiosity. “Hey, while five visitors found my review helpful, four found it not helpful,” said the blogger who identifies himself as “q.“. Amazon tracked those four down votes to Blackberry IPs in turn assigned to a small import export firm called ‘Langley Vetting’ somewhere in Virginia. Strange.” Indeed. I could find no reference to a “Langley Vetting” online. Share this: StumbleUpon Digg Reddit
          "zapruder" by Robert Fernandez
I like this poem right here" Zap Ruder"! Because its awesome.. it really does make sense to me even though i had to read it twice to understand what the author was trying to say. I see that he was really focus taking a picture somewhere in the poem. They were really focused on doing it and not paying attention to anything else. So its like if you think you focus on your goal or dream in life and you don't pay attention to nothing else you know? That's what it meant to me. " That moment when everything begins to wave.."  Got me thinking about a group of people like the army or the marines. The poem starts off weird though like its a mystery. "day off in a dark suit and hat" Then goes on in more detail like there doing some FBI stuff. Sounds like there trying to find clues to get to the bottom of it.

Albany Hangover Half Marathon - 01-01-10
This little halfie was hard to locate on the internet but my friend Mary Karen told me it existed - and it did. A few months back, I e-mailed the president of the running club in Albany, NY for the information about this half-marathon and he responded by saying it was very low-key, started on the Albany Univeristy campus at noon, and the more the merrier. (sounds like my kind of event)

Getting ready for the starting signal

Per usual, last week brought a nice sinus infection and a series of migraines that made me feel right at home. I can't remember a race that I've been 100%, so this one was no exception.

My father-in-law had decided to run with us quite a few months ago. When we arrived in the area two days before the race, he attempted to talk his way out of it (claiming he was sick with a horrible cold.) I threw the gauntlet down as fast as you can say...... well, pretty fast. NO WAY, sir, THERE WILL BE NO USING THAT CARD ON ME - you're running this race. He did!

Bill getting psyched for 13.1 miles of fun

We met Mary Karen at 11am for registration. The ambiance of this pre-race locale was great - a fantastic way to start the year. I plopped my $5 registration on the desk and managed a quick visit with my kids and husband before making the way to the start.

Mary Karen looking so happy at the start - isn't she cute?

I had promised Mary Karen and Bill that my goal was to complete this event together. Starting my garmin at the starting bell and we were off to a great 11 minute mile pace. The route was a complex five-loop course that was enjoyably hilly. (odd, right?) No, seriously, it was hilly but not unbearable - the kind of hills that you don't really notice until they are just about done (except for that last one that was about .4 miles from the end....)

We were card-holding members of the "back of the pack club" (PROUD BACKPACKERS UNITE!!!) but that did not prevent me from striking up conversations with some other runners. (MK and Bill made fun of me for this, but I think that they just were jealous that I met a really cool lady (Nora) - turns out that she was a Rotary Exchange student to Germany the year after Kari and I were in Belgium..... enough said! She got the whole story and won herself a Road to Paris pin.) btw - we also had a wonderful conversation about Born to Run (and I know the book review must be next - and it will)

In the end, the memorable moment of this race will be the inner strength that Mary Karen found when she hit the wall at mile 11.5. She impressed me with her determination. These are the moments that people miss when they run alone  -  they are ot lost on me. I loved that I had the chance to run this event with her and my father-in-law.....good stuff.

My #1 fans!

Got home a few hours ago and got to work on my next half-marathon plans. (Williamsburg, VA on February 28th)   Keeping with my goal to run with as many friends as possible, I was elated to find out that my very dear friend Francine and her daughter Bailey (residents of Williamsburg) will be running their first half-marathon with me.....can you say PSYCHED????

Happy New Year - and be sure to get out there and run.

          Harddisk Definition

Hard disk drive (HDD)
A computer hard disk drive (HDD) is the mechanism that controls the positioning, reading and writing of the hard disk, which furnishes data storage. A hard disk drive -- often shortened to hard drive -- and hard disk are not the same thing, but they are packaged as a unit and either term can refer to the whole unit. Hard disk drives can be found in desktop computers, mobile devices, consumer electronics and enterprise storage arrays in data centers.
5 Data Storage Technologies to Watch in 2016
For the past 13 years, the experts at SearchStorage.com have honored the best and brightest technologies for the upcoming year. As always, we're proud to present a batch of technologies we believe will make a big impact on the data storage market.

History of hard disk drives
The hard disk was created in 1953 by engineers at IBM who wanted to find a way to provide random access to high capacities of data at a low cost. The disk drives developed were the size of refrigerators, could store 3.75 megabytes of data and began shipping in 1956. Memorex, Seagate and Western Digital were other early vendors of hard disk drive technology.
Hard disk drive form-factor size has continued to decrease as the technology evolves. By the mid-1980s, 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch form factors were introduced, and it was at this time they first became a standard in personal computers (PCs).
Hard disk drive density has increased since the technology was first developed. The first hard disk drives were able to store megabytes of data, while today they are in the terabyte (TB) range. Hitachi released the first 1 TB hard drives in 2007. In 2015, HGST announced the first 10 TB hard drive.

KONSEP

Enterprise Unified Process

2.1 Pengertian Enterprise Unified Process

2.2.1 Pengertian Rational Unified Process

Proses pengembangan perangkat lunak yang dijelaskan kedalam beberapa disiplin terdiri dari empat elemen penting, yakni who is doing, what, how dan when. Dimensi ini terdiri atas
Business Modeling, Requirement, Analysis and Design, Implementation, Test, Deployment, Configuration dan Change Manegement, Project Management, Environtment.
While trying to come up with a fun arts or crafts project for our 100 Days of Art Challenge I realized that my boys were already guiding themselves with some creative fun.

The older two boys have been coloring up a storm in some of our coloring books; mainly our Color Counts books.  It seems like someone is coloring every time I turn around.

I have often colored right alongside the boys and find all of the new coloring books on the market quite captivating.  Our favorites are those that are thick enough for us to color with marker (or in the case of these Color Counts books, one sided).

Here are all the pages my boys have worked on in the last two weeks!

All we needed was a package of fine tipped markers (my boys like these Crayola ones), our Color Counts books (garden one here and Travel the World here), and some quiet time to color.  Each space is labeled with a number and you just match the number to the color key.

It's quite simple and so relaxing.

          My Boys' June Books
Even though we officially finished up our schoolwork by the first Friday in June, my boys have still been reading just about every day.  Alec, in particular, has been reading up a storm and they have all picked some really great books to read lately!

The Wolf Keepers

The White Wolf

Miles Taylor and the Golden Cape

Splat the Cat; The Rain is a Pain

The X-ed Out X-ray

I have had so much fun reading this month!  With our school year ending and spending more of our days relaxing I have had a lot of time to read... and I found so many wonderful books to indulge with.

1.  All Dressed In White by Mary Higgins Clark & Alafair Burke--  I love mystery novels and this book was fantastic!  5 years after Amanda mysteriously disappears from a seaside resort just days before her wedding her family asks the show Under Suspicion to do an expose on what really happened; hoping beyond hope to finally find out what happened to Amanda on that fateful night and answer once and for all the question of whether or not she's still alive.

2.  Irresistible by Susan Mallery--Elissa is a struggling single mom who has sworn off men until her daughter is old enough to leave home.... then her new neighbor, an ex- marine, and all around helpful guy begins to lend her a hand.  Will he prove to irresistible to ignore?

3.  Distant Shores by Kristin Hannah-- When Birdie and her husband Jack Shore find themselves with an empty house and unfulfilled dreams they are left wondering how life passed them by. As they drift apart they decide to purposely spend time apart and end up on opposites sides of the United States with Jack in New York and Birdie enjoying the pacific northwest.  As they both struggle to hold onto their dreams they are unsure if they should let one another go too.

4.  Still Alice by Lisa Genova-- I watched the movie when it first came out on DVD and just loved it but I had put off reading the book; mostly because I found the movie so moving and emotional I had no idea how I would survive the book.  It was fabulous!  When Alice first begins forgetting simple everyday things she chalks it up to the onset of menopause but soon realizes that these are not run of the mill memory lapses.  The book shows her and her family's struggle to cope with early onset Alzheimer's.

5.  Delicious by Susan Mallery -- In this prequel to Irresistible I got to read all about how Penny and her ex- husband Cal reconnected and fell madly in love with one another.  Even though they both had lots of issue, secrets, and misunderstandings.

6.  Sizzling by Susan Mallery-- After reading the first two books in the series, I just knew I had to keep going!  In sizzling Reid meets his match with feisty home nurse Lori.

7.  Tempting by Susan Mallery-- I just had to finish up the series and learn what happened with black sheep of the family; Dani Buchanan.  When she discovers who her real father is, Dani must decide what to do about him and his adopted son, Alex.

8.  We Are All Made of Stars by Rowan Coleman-- Stella, a hospice nurse, finds solace writing last letters for her patients making sure that their last words and thoughts are preserved for their families.  With her husband returned from Afghanistan a totally different man, she find escape and meaning in her work.  One night while writing a letter, Stella is faced with a dilemma.  The letters are always delivered after the patients' death but just this one time Stella feels that there could be a very different ending if she delivers it before...

9.  Beach Town by Mary Kay Andrews-- Greer is thrilled when she finds a small town Florida town that fits the exact specifications of her bosses list.  As a location scout for a movie company, Greer is used to paving the way for the film crew and all that shooting a movie on location entails but she meets her match in Cypress Keys when mayor Eb takes objection to their plans.  Will they find a way to make their movie in this beach town?

          Project #93: String Art
I've been wanting to do this art project with the boys for quite some time!  I found some discounted wooden blocks at Michael's back at Christmas time and then I tucked them away in our craft closet and the project slipped to the back of my mind.

I knew I had to buy special, small nails and I wasn't sure HOW to go about doing this project with the kids.  I finally decided we just had to jump in and give it a try.  I knew that getting to use wood, nails and a hammer was a surefire way to get all three boys to participate in this 100 Days of Art Challenge activity.

We settled on printing some free string art patterns off the internet and I sized them on our printer to fit their craft squares.

The boys taped the paper to their squares to keep them from moving around and set to work.

Using our hammers and 3/4 in nails they set to work banging in nails to follow the lines of their patterns.  They didn't add in every nail that was shown on the pattern since they all had a little bit of a struggle to get the nails in, stay in, and not bend. It was a great learning opportunity!

Once they each had all the nails in, I helped them tie the embroidery floss to one of the nails and then they wound the string around following their pattern in whichever way they wished.

When they were finished I had them end at the nail they had started with and then knotted the end string to the tail of the beginning string.  Once I trimmed the string off I helped the boys remove the paper.  (We probably should have removed the paper before stringing but I was afraid that they would loose their pattern and not know which nails to use).

Finished star with the paper removed and the string trimmed down

Ian's superman symbol was so difficult!  But he was thrilled with how it turned out.

I do wished that I thought to buy an extra piece of wood for myself; it looked like a lot of fun.

          Book Tag: Cuentos clásicos
¡¡Hola, holaa!!

It is Summer again and that means it is time for my annual leave back to the homeland. It has been over a year since I have graced (or befouled, depending on your political and/or moral leanings) my nation of birth.

The US, Something For Everyone!

I get asked all the time why I don't get back to the USA more often. Due to my vocation, I have the means and time to do so. The simple answer is that the taxman is to blame. He keeps me away from friends and family for all but a mere 30 days a year or he will make claim of a rather large percentage of the income I earn in foreign lands.

I have complained about this before. American citizens living and working overseas are penalized if they dare spend over a month back home during a year. Family emergency, screw you...you pay,  miss a flight, screw you... you pay,  break a leg and need hospital time, screw you...you pay. Get the idea? No other country treats its expatriot citizens this harshly. As a veteran of the US Navy, I am not amused. I served my country and now they hold this sword over my head.

I find this wrong on many levels. As an expat, I put no burden on the US infrastructure and I don't add to the massive debt and deficit. I feel like I am actually doing the government a favor by not living there. They don't have to feed and house me or provide me with medical care. They don't have to worry about policing me or collecting my garbage but for some reason they feel the need to stick me for taxes if I don't follow some lame random rules anyway. Even when I live 8000 miles away and have not earned a penny in the US for years. It is MY money not theirs!

Internal Revenue Service

Anyway, rant over. I am due to fly back home in a couple of days, and I am apprehensive about it. I should be happy and excited, but instead I sense a dark foreboding. I am clueless to why that is.

The first thing that happened is that a good friend/ex- coworker and I planned to meet here 4 days in advance of my departure. She was to fly from the US, we would see some sights then fly back together on my departure date back to JFK and go our own ways from there.

Simple, huh? Not quite. She was standby and got bumped off the flight from JFK to Abu Dhabi in a rare occasion where everyone actually showed up on time for the flight. Not one of the ~300 seats went unfilled.  It was an abort at the last minute. She ended up going back to her home.

I had delayed my departure to the US due to her visit and now have 4 empty days in Abu Dhabi eating into my valuable annual leave time. I could alter my plans and leave Abu Dhabi earlier but it is cost prohibitive to change my employer supplied JFK to Utah discount tickets on Delta airlines. Even if I did eat this cost and go through the gyrations of changing my itinerary (nothing is easy here!), all I would gain is 2 days because the travel center is closed today and the earliest I could possibly leave is the 6th instead of the 8th.

This is a perfect example of the "Butterfly Effect" where it is theorized that the presence or absence of a butterfly flapping its wings in a certain time or place may trigger the presence or absence of a hurricane in another time or place. In other words, series of minor, unrelated events add up to alter the lives of others. If just one passenger was delayed in NYC traffic and couldn't make the flight, my friend could have gotten a seat and my plans would have been realized and theirs would not.

Uh Oh,  Could Be Trouble!

We are not as in control of our existence as we like to think, everything is interconnected and our lives are determined by random things that happen near and far. For example, think about the circumstances surrounding the meeting your significant other. Most likely the meeting was the result of purely random choices, location and timing. Muslims have a good word for this, Inshallah. Loosely translated to, "If God is willing, it will happen". I am not sure about a deity being involved, but I think for the most part, we are just along for the ride with little personal influence in the outcome. There are just too many outside factors beyond our control.

Anyway, I will chronicle my upcoming visit back home in words and photos again as I did last year. Those posts seemed to be very popular and I will try to outdo myself this year. I plan on visits to NYC, Utah, Las Vegas, Texas, Florida, Alabama, Georgia and Chicago. Even though the start of my holiday was not auspicious with the failure of my friend's trip, I hope to have many adventures and stories to tell, Inshallah!

          Songkran
I have been in kind of a mental slump lately. Maybe it is the return of the heat to this region, or maybe it is fatigue due to my brutal work schedule. All I know is that I have had a severe case of dont-give-a-shit-itis in the past couple of months. A possible cure for this condition presented itself in the form of an invitation to join a colleague and his Thai wife and 4 year old son to Thailand last month for Songkran.

Songkran is the Thai New Year' Celebration. In the old days it was held when certain astrological conditions were met that closely coincided with the vernal equinox. Elders and monks were visited and water was sprinkled on the shoulders of family and friends as gestures of good luck for the coming year. Faces of those  blessed by Buddhist monks bore a chalk marking, also a symbol of good luck.  Seems like no matter where you are there is some sort of vernal equinox celebration. It seems a universal human need to welcome the time when the Sun is aligned with the equator and daytime and nightime are equal. Christianity's Easter is an example.

In modern times Songkran has been pegged around the middle of April. Different regions of the country celebrate at different times but mostly it is observed between the 13th and the 19th. The gentle sprinkles of water have given way to water bazookas and 5 liter buckets recharged from giant bins of ice cold water. Motorists on certain streets have to run a gauntlet of revelers armed to the teeth with diabolical water dispensing devices. No one can expect to stay dry. My mobile phone was a casualty of an errant splash.

Thailand, Land of Smiles!

Howling at the Moon

You Fill in the Blanks! No Magnums?  Dammit!!!

This is Weird on Different Levels..What's with the Bow Tie? Formal Night?

After 3 Days of Songkran, I can Relate with these Thai Pups!
At first I was I was skeptical. How much fun can I have being squirted with ice water constantly for 3 days? Come to find out, it was a blast! I felt I was 10 years old again. It was like an aquatic Mardi Gras. What's better than the sanctioned, unlimited use of a water bazooka against others?

Everyone was in a good mood and I never saw even the hint of a conflict. I love Thailand and its people. The Land of Smiles! They know something about happiness in life that us Westerners have yet to discover.

Go to Thailand during Sangkran (or anytime), you will not regret it!

WEEKEND RUNAROUND

On Your Bike

Instead of the usual long run for some next Saturday morning the 17th of June we will be doing a Leisure Cycle instead. The plan is Midleton to Youghal and onto Tallow. Coffee stop there and then back to Midleton via Dungourney. All welcome. Any one looking to know more just ask Edwin at training Monday night.

EAST FERRY 5Mile

On a very wet and miserable evening a reasonable crowd turned out for the East Ferry 5Mile organised by Aghada RC. Our club had a very good crew out especially as some of them ran last night. We would have had several prize winners in the various categories but there were only prizes for the first three ladies and gents in the race. But its not all about prizes it was well organised and a great spread after. On a very bright note it was wonderful to see Rod Scanlan back in action after a long absence and to see Kevin Moran getting a PB of one and a half minutes after doing the marathon last Sunday.

Apology for missing this on Sunday but Mark Walsh was 1st O/55 in the Half Marathon. Well done once again Mark.

Mersk 6Km Carrigtwohill

Fine crowd from the club out here on Thursday evening and luckily the rain stayed. Not too tough a course but different in that it is a 6Km and is marked in Km's. Some great results with Helen Gilroy 3rd Lady home, Mick Murphy 3rd O/45, Edmond O'Sullivan 1st O/55, Neilus Aherne 1st O/60.

WEEKEND RUNAROUND

Training

I have been getting a few enquiries. There is no training on Monday evening as its a Bank Holiday. We will have training on Tuesday evening @ 6.30 at the Community Centre with Edmond as usual.

Cork City Marathon
A Day Of Highs and Lows

Ger McLean Reports

It's hasn't  been a great year for me running with injury after injury but absolutely delighted with my time today in the Cork marathon 3.12 Thanks for all the support from Midleton ac, what a great club. Running past a group of Middleton ac lady's on this part of the course the support was so good I wanted to turn around and pass for a second time. Also a big thank you to Danny Mc Carthy for all the support and photos along the course and Siobhan Murphy at roundabout before the tunnel, not many people that far out. Roll on Dublin,

Lego Heads
The Lego Runners had a brilliant Cork Half. Came I under 1:50. The Lego Heads were like a sweat box but there's not much in our ceanns anyway so no fear of damage there. The support and buzz on the route was superb. Genuine smiles, high fives and cheers spread the whole way. Well done Sunny Cork! The Midleton Vests were shining bright all around. Well done to all the Midleton participants and supporters today. Well represented at our Rebel big day. Thank you to all for your support, praise and encouragement. With it, we have raised over €1500 which will go to helping the Children's Leukaemia Association better the care of sick children and their families. On behalf of the CLA, myself and Nigel ,Mìle , Mìle buíochas. Thanks to Mick Murphy for the photo.(My son Callum got in on the action too. Future star.:-))

Photo's are not in finishing order but it really was a day of highs and lows. Well done everyone who ran and glad that some achieved the times they deserved and worked for and sorry for those who also put in the work and didn't get what they deserved. Once again the famous marathon slogan proves itself true "It's all on the day". Reports in has Morgan O'Regan as our first man home at 3.05. Fionan OhAodain got a new PB with 85 mins. also Alan Morley knocked over five mins off his PB. Paul Geary and Kevin Moran both got PBs as well.
Huge congrats to Marian Aherne and Breda Sheedy who made their marathon debuts in great style also debutant Edwin Cashman.
Neilus Aherne had a great run to win 1st O/60 in the Half Marathon.

Thanks to Siobhan Murphy for the above photo's

Marathon Sunday

It seems strange writing that as normally it would be Monday. The hours are counting down no matter what you are doing marathon, half marathon or relay. Message from Captain Claire Fitzgerald

Cork Marathon

It gives me great pleasure to wish Marian Ahern, Edwin Cashman and Breeda Sheedy the very best as they embark on their first journey and prepare for their entry into the Midleton AC book of PBs for our home grown Cork marathon this Sunday.

For many others, namely Derek Ahern, Shelia Buckley, Amanda Cooney, Paul Geary, Ger O’ Regan, Morgan O'Regan, Gerard McLean, Kevin Moran and Mary B Walsh, Midleton AC wishes you ALL the luck, energy and Cork willpower to pull you through.

Whether your own goal is to complete your 19th marathon or to get over the line in less than 4 hours, our Midleton club will be there with you throughout. We will be cheering on our Midleton Marathoners at the relay stages; at the half marathon stage (even in Lego heads, aka Shane Foley- Go Team Children’s Leukaemia Association!);  and as stewards on the course we’ll be spectating and supporting you: what else would we be doing on Sunday!

Wishing EVERYONE PARTICIPATING an enjoyable experience, including our ‘Ballintotis ‘Fit for Life’ cousins, and hoping to see all Midleton AC members and supporters in the Maple from 8.30pm for the Sunday race reviews.

Apologies for any unintended omissions: please tell us ASAP.
Claire Fitzgerald, Club Captain and & the Midleton AC Commitee
